U.S. Court Closes DEBT Box Case and Orders SEC to Pay $1.8 Million Fine

⚖️ On May 28, 2024, the Utah District Court (USA) concluded the DEBT Box case, dismissing the lawsuit filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against the organization.

🔨 The judge also ordered the regulator to pay approximately $1.8 million to the attorneys and receivers. According to the document, the SEC will pay around $1 million to the attorneys as fees and expenses, and $750,000 to the arbitration manager.

✔️ To recall, the SEC's lawsuit against DEBT alleged that the firm engaged in financial fraud with cryptocurrencies amounting to $50 million. Later, the company provided evidence that the regulator distorted facts and made false statements.

Thanks to a flaw in an old version of 🤖 RoboForm and a bit of luck, researchers helped one man recover access to 43.6 BTC, worth about 💰 $3 million. He lost the password to his wallet, created in 2013, after a file got corrupted.

🔍 In 2022, he reached out to famed hacker Joe Grand (Kingpin), who teamed up with Bruno from Germany. They 🔨 reverse-engineered the 2013 RoboForm version and found a flaw in its password generation, which used the computer's date and time.

Despite multiple failed attempts, they finally 🎉 cracked the password in November 2023. The happy owner of the recovered password sold part of his BTC when the price hit $62,000 and plans to hold the rest until it reaches $100,000. 🚀

💡 Losing the password turned out to be a stroke of luck, as it prevented him from selling earlier at a lower price.

LayerZero Expands to Solana Blockchain
