Messages from scammers.
Content: It’s mad how many messages from scammers I’ve received, after posting yesterday about Coinbase not loading. I guess this happens a lot? Or is it because I’m new. Either way it’s sad.

Monero atomic swaps on Coinbureau
Content: Great PR for monero as Guy has 1.27 million subscribers as of this date.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0H60NUayTA

From 14:11 to 15:25

It's also awesome that he mentions that unlike DEFI, there seems to be only one 'winner' in the crypto privacy niche.

Monero has been removed from Coindesk
Content: I’ve just noticed this. It happened this morning. This is likely to further detract from monero’s visibility as I know Coindesk is the place a lot of retail/passive crypto holders and investors go to look for buys

Edit: Coindesk provides a live quote service for all cryptos ..all except monero now (for some reason). It’s one of the first search results when throwing “monero price” into google so is a common landing spot and starting point for many people who are beginning their research into monero. I have a friend who holds monero who goes to check prices on Coindesk ..I sometimes use it too. I know several people who read articles on Coindesk. Link: https://www.coindesk.com/price/monero

Edit 2: Some are saying Coindesk have removed any quoting service outside of the top 20. This is incorrect. Zcash is 64th and their price feed is working. Link: https://www.coindesk.com/price/zcash

I’m dumb and got phished.
Content: Hello! I would usually consider myself to be semi internet literate and not prone to scams but I guess I fell for one. As a result someone sent themselves the entire balance of my Bitcoin in my CB account. Aside from filing a police report can anyone offer advice as to what steps to take after Bitcoin gets stolen? TIA.

Update: I still don’t know exactly what I did wrong. I did find the dodgy URL in my history but to my knowledge I’ve only ever accessed Coinbase through the app and official Coinbase site so I’m not sure how I got redirected. I double checked and all my emails were legit Coinbase emails. Here’s the transaction through the blockchain if this helps anyone avoid them.

Please learn from another’s misfortune… My little brother just lost almost 50,000$ because of something so simple.
Content: So back story since I have to hit a character limit anyway…. My little brother sold his car before his deployment a little over a year ago. Dumped his 12k into crypto and over the course of the last year turned it into just under 50k…

All is well so far right. Well the guy decided at the beginning the best way to not lose his keys was to screenshot them. He was even smart enough to print said picture and put it in a safe. And delete the pic from his phone.

What he failed to do was delete the photo from his Apple photos backup. Fast forward to today and someone hacked into his Apple account (not a difficult feat for most hackers) Obviously recognized screenshots from a crypto wallet keys, address, and QR code included. And cleaned him out.

His funds since have changed addresses a couple times and from his best look have been converted to Monero…gone forever.

Hopefully from his misfortune someone here can learn a lesson and not suffer the same fate. Hell most of us probably even have a insider threat. Get a divorce and a disgruntled spouse who knows your passwords cleans you out lol. Be smart

And FYI he is a member of this sub if you wish to express condolences or give him crap for being an idiot. (That’s what I’ve been doing). We will see if he is too embarrassed to speak out lol.

Hacked Accounts are not Coinbase Fault - Sorry CNBC
Content: After reading many articles and situations on how individual accounts got hacked - Phone Carriers(Especially! T-Mobile) are at fault for allowing SIM Card Swamps. The fact these phone carriers never caught on to these hackers is unbelievable. Two authentication is used by so many companies, not just Coinbase. If your own phone carrier allows a hackers to take over your phone with 5 min call and gain access to any account - The Phone Carrier is at fault.

We just recently found out hackers had access to over 101 Million users data at T-Mobile Database. We have no idea how long they have had access to the database. For all we know, they have been using this information to gain access to our personal identification(SSN, Address, Photo ID).

There is a huge lawsuit that needs to be settled to all customers of T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon when it comes to our Data.

Monero, and creepy blockchain tracing firms
Content: The following article from The Motley Fool https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/08/23/why-monero-is-skyrocketing-today/ says it best

It's therefore a solid cryptocurrency to buy now for those looking to use it for legitimate transactions without worrying about creepy blockchain tracing firms.

How does reporting crypto gains in your taxes work in Canada?
Content: How does reporting crypto gains in your taxes work in Canada? When your filing taxes, do you only need to provide an amount of your capital gains from selling crypto that year or do you need to also provide supporting documentation like a tax report done on koinly or coin tracker?

Sorry, newbie over here lol

Types of Crypto Scams I am aware of and you should be to
Content: These are the ones I know of:

SCAM #1. Someone re-streaming a live broadcast of someone famous and "ASKING YOU TO SEND THEM CRYPTO" and they will send you more back as a "Community service" sort of B.S. Can also be done on a text chat or email.

SCAM #2. In a public social media app someone offers to help you out with a wallet issue you are having. So they ask you to "SEND THEM YOUR RECOVERY PHRASES". Can also be done on a text chat or email.

SCAM #3. GOOGLE PLAY STORE does NOT verify the software is not a scam or have a virus. So some wallets on Google Play Store has keyloggers in them OR fake wallet that once you install and load with crypto, sends all your crypto to them. Never to be seen again. Can also be done on a text chat or email. ALWAYS GET SOFTWARE WALLETS FROM THE PROJECTS MAIN WEBSITE ONLY.

SCAM #4. Ledger/Trezor/Other hardware wallets not purchased directly from the projects sole source. Example, hardware wallet sold on Amazon (you don't know that have been tampered with) so you loose all your crypto. Also never buy a used hardware wallet OR buy a new hardware wallet from other than the original seller.

If you know of another scam, please post so I can add it to my list.
