The creator of the Telegram messenger, Pavel Durov, was detained at the Paris airport.

According to the French TV channel TF1, the founder and CEO of Telegram was arrested on Saturday evening at Le Bourget airport. He was accompanied by a bodyguard and a woman.

The publication claims that Durov arrived from Azerbaijan and was declared a federal fugitive. The French authorities issued a search warrant for him, based on a preliminary investigation, as he did not cooperate with the French law enforcement agencies. According to TF1, this makes him an accomplice in drug trafficking and other serious crimes.

The main complaint of the EU authorities against Telegram is encrypted messages. According to TF1:
For many years, it has become the number one platform for organized crime, said the investigator.
