Tether makes $4.52 billion profit in Q1
Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, posted a record net profit of $4.52 billion in the first quarter of 2024, despite a decline in market share. According to the attestation report, the main income came from investments in US Treasuries, as well as gains from investments in bitcoin and gold.
As of March 31, 2024, Tether held over $90 billion in Treasuries, increasing its excess reserves to nearly $6.3 billion. Tether Group's net worth also increased, reaching $11.37 billion. Tether token reserves were approximately $110.3 billion, exceeding liabilities by more than $6 billion.
Despite issuing 12.5 billion new USDT tokens, Tether is gradually losing market share in the face of intense competition in the stablecoin sector. According to Kaiko, its market share on centralized exchanges has fallen to 69% since the beginning of the year. Stablecoins like FDUSD and USDC are gaining ground.
