Dash Text Beta Tests Telegram and WhatsApp Integrations

 🚀 #Dash Text, which enables consumers to easily spend Dash via SMS texting, is now testing a Telegram integration with a WhatsApp integration on the horizon. While the team is still going to focus on SMS transactions, the team recognized the popularity of Telegram and WhatsApp within Venezuela and Venezuelans living abroad and wanted to provide even more ways to send remittances. The beta tests are rolling out slowly to limited Spanish-speaking individuals that request a sign up, but illustrates the significant expansion that Dash has seen throughout Latin America.

Maltese Financial Regulator Appoints CipherTrace to Monitor Compliance in Crypto Firms

❇️The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) has appointed blockchain security firm CipherTrace to monitor activity by crypto businesses in Malta, local news agency The Times of Malta reports on March 11.
CipherTrace is now set to be responsible for overseeing regulatory processes and audit risk management of virtual asset businesses licensed in Malta, CipherTrace CEO Joseph Cuschier explained.

❇️ Facebook’s reported stablecoin project could be a significant moneymaker for the social media giant, according to Barclays analyst Ross Sandler.

🔷In a note to investors first reported by CNBC and later obtained by CoinDesk, Sandler says Facebook’s cryptocurrency efforts could yield anywhere from $3 billion to $19 billion in additional revenue by 2021. To put that estimate in context, the Menlo Park, California, company brought in $40.6 billion in total revenue in 2017, with $39.9 billion from advertising.

⚠️ Ledger Discloses Five Reported Vulnerabilities in Two Models of Trezor Hardware Wallets 

♨️ Ledger’s Attack Lab has found five vulnerabilities in hardware wallets of its direct competitor Trezor. Trezor was not immediately available to comment on Ledger’s findings. The vulnerabilities were found by Attack Lab, the company’s department that hacks into both its own and competitors’ devices to improve security. Ledger claims that it has repeatedly addressed Trezor about weaknesses in their Trezor One and Trezor T wallets, and has decided to make them public after the responsible disclosure period ended

MyEtherWallet Launches New Open Source Ethereum Blockchain Explorer

🔹Major Ethereum #ETH wallet provider MyEtherWallet #MEW has announced the launch of the alpha version of its new open source Ethereum blockchain explorer, EthVM, in a tweet from the official MEW Twitter account on March 11.
The current version of EthVM shows data from the Ropsten network, an Ethereum testnet. Once deployed on Ethereum’s main network (mainnet), EthVM will be competing with Etherscan, the current leading Ethereum block explorer.

⛔️Russia: Central Bank Suggests Limiting Sale of Crypto Assets for ‘Unqualified Investors’

⚠️ The Central Bank of Russia wants to set an annual limit for so-called “unqualified investors” that want to purchase digital assets, local business media giant RBC reported on Tuesday, March 12.
According to the documents obtained by RBC, the bank wants to amend the current draft crypto bill, dubbed “On Digital Financial Assets,” which recently passed a second of three readings in Russia’s parliament, the State Duma.

Digital Currency Wallet Abra Adds Direct Support for #ETH Instead of as Asset Derivative

🔹 Digital currency wallet and exchange #Abra has launched native Ethereum #ETH support, according to an official blog post published on March 12.

The new code curbed application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC)-powered mining with a new proof-of-work (PoW) algorithm. Cryptocurrency Community Eyes Tether #USDT After Website Dilutes USD Backing Claims

🔸Developers behind stablecoin Tether #USDT have drawn scrutiny today, March 14, after social media users noticed they had removed previous claims that the altcoin was fully backed by United States dollars.

🔹Tether #USDT which has faced various publicity hurdles over the transparency of its holdings, had de facto guaranteed that each of its #USDT tokens had an equivalent 1 USD in the bank.

🔹Intended as the opposite to fractional reserve banking, as Cointelegraph reported in December last year, documents had further confirmed the validity of Tether’s backing claims.

✔️Now, however, a new update, date unknown, to its website suggests USD holdings no longer cover the full supply of #USDT .

🔻Canada: Regulatory Bodies Call on Crypto Industry to Participate in Securities Law Review

🔸Two national securities bodies in Canada have issued a joint consultation paper on March 14, aiming to gather industry feedback about cryptocurrency token regulation.

🔺In a summary press release about the paper, the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) and Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) said it was necessary to adapt existing laws in order to cope with the emergence of new trading platforms specializing in crypto-assets.

🔻IBM is coming to the crypto custody space.

🔸Later this month, Shuttle Holdings, a New York investment firm, will launch the beta version of a custody solution for digital assets built on IBM’s private cloud and encryption technologies. The companies won’t be storing cryptocurrencies and tokens themselves, but offering tools for others to do so.

🔹Potential users include banks, brokers, custodians, funds, family offices and high net worth investors who want to do self-custody, as well as exchanges, Brad Chun, Shuttle’s chief investment officer, told CoinDesk.

🔺“We have a list of selected clients that we are launching limited service with this month,” Chun said. The service is “not open to the public yet and there is a wait list to get into our beta.”
