New bipartisan bill on crypto fraud introduced in the U.S.

Senators Elissa Slotkin (D) and Jerry Moran (R) have unveiled the SAFE Crypto Act — a bipartisan move to crack down on crypto scams.

What it would do:
- Create a federal task force that brings together the Treasury, DOJ, Secret Service, and leading blockchain-intelligence firms to detect and stop fraud in real time.

Why now:
- The FBI reports $9.3 billion lost to crypto scams in 2024, up 66% from the prior year.

Key focus areas:
- Ponzi schemes and rug pulls
- Fake token offerings
- Pig-butchering scams
- Crypto ATM fraud

The bill would also require stablecoin issuers to have the ability to freeze assets tied to illicit activity. This is enforcement-focused, not about new trading rules. A positive step toward cleaning up the space and protecting investors.
