💵 US dollar is falling at the fastest pace since 1980

The dollar has become the second worst performer in the G10. A year ago it was the strongest. In the last 3 months, most major currencies gained sharply against it.

✅ Australian dollar up about 8%
✅ Swedish krona up over 10%
✅ New Zealand dollar up 5%
✅ Norwegian krone up close to 2%

The pressure comes from several angles. Political uncertainty in the US is rising. Trade policy looks aggressive and hard to predict, with tariffs coming back into focus. That has triggered a broad “sell America” move, with capital flowing out of US assets.

There are also doubts around Fed independence. Public pressure for easier policy makes markets question how insulated monetary decisions really are. Add growing fiscal deficits and rising debt, and confidence in the dollar takes another hit.

This looks less like a quick move and more like a shift in how global markets price US risk.

This chart tracks the world’s top economies over the last 45 years using nominal GDP. The hierarchy changed a lot, but some patterns stayed surprisingly stable.

The US has remained the largest economy the entire time. GDP grew from about $2.9T in 1980 to over $30.6T in 2025, keeping a clear lead despite cycles and shocks.

China is the biggest structural shift.

Japan tells the opposite story. It peaked in the late 80s and early 90s, briefly closing the gap with the US, then slowed. By 2025 it sits in 4th place.

Europe stayed relevant but stagnant. Germany, the UK, and France never dropped out of the top 10, yet none managed a breakout like China or India.

India quietly climbed the ranks. From under $200B in 1980 to over $4.1T in 2025, now inside the top 5.

🥈 COMEX silver inventories keep shrinking

Registered silver on COMEX sits near 102M ounces, while open interest in the March contract is about 366M ounces. The delivery gap is large, even if it never fully closes in practice.

The March contract is now rolling fast. In the last 24 hours:

📊 Open interest fell by 2,943 contracts, about 15M ounces

📊 May contracts increased by 3,589, roughly 18M ounces

At this pace, March open interest could fall to registered inventory levels in about 18 trading days, around March 6. First Notice Day is February 27.

Silver can still move into vaults or be reclassified, but registered inventory keeps trending lower. Even after last week’s sharp selloff, that trend did not reverse.

That’s the signal.
