Taiko Halts Block Production After $1.7M Bridge Exploit

Ethereum Layer-2 Taiko stopped all block production after attackers exploited a flaw in its bridge's proof verification โ€” forging proofs to bypass checks and drain funds.

Taiko is urging users to withdraw funds from every bridge on the network immediately, and has asked exchanges to suspend TAIKO deposits.

Security firm PeckShield estimates losses near $1.7M. Proposers stay paused while the team investigates โ€” the latest hit in a brutal month for cross-chain bridges.

Polymarket Rocked by Fake-Win and Insider Scandals

A WSJ investigation says Polymarket paid creators to fake winning bets on lookalike dummy sites and quietly promote its US-banned exchange โ€” even paying streamer Adin Ross millions.

Separately, Lookonchain flagged three wallets that won $24.25M on World Cup markets with near-perfect records, all routing profits to one Binance deposit address โ€” a suspected single insider.

Two damaging reports in one week pile pressure on the prediction-market boom's biggest name, raising fresh questions over Polymarket's integrity.

JaredFromSubway MEV Bot Drained in $7.5M Honeypot

Notorious sandwich-attack bot 'jaredfromsubway' was drained after an attacker spun up 66 fake wrapper tokens and pools mimicking WETH, USDC and USDT to lure it in.

No code was hacked: lured by fake 'arbitrage', the bot kept approving attacker contracts, which then swept ~1,475 WETH plus ~$4.9M in USDC/USDT in one tx.

Blockaid pegs the loss near $7.5M; Jared himself claims $15M. About 1,000 ETH was then routed through Tornado Cash.

โ€‹GoMining Takes On Dorsey's Square With Native BTC Payments

GoMining opened its GoBTC Pay protocol to merchants with a Gen1 SDK and API โ€” putting it in direct competition with Block's Square in the race for everyday BTC payments. The new product enables merchants, wallet providers, and partners to integrate Bitcoin payments into real-world products and services.

The twist: GoMining merchants receive actual Bitcoin, settled on-chain and non-custodial โ€” where Square and most rivals convert BTC to fiat by default. The bet: businesses want to keep their BTC.

Built on GoMining's private 15 EH/s Stratum V2 mempool with ~12h settlement and a 0.2% fee split between wallets and miners; an initial ~10 merchants are onboarding. GoMining currently serves 5M users.

Toss Bank Taps Solana for Cross-Border Payments

Korea's Toss Bank โ€” a neobank with ~15M users โ€” signed an MOU with the Solana Foundation, its first direct deal with the network, to pilot stablecoin cross-border payments on-chain.

Why it matters far beyond Korea: a licensed, mainstream bank putting real cross-border payments on a public chain is a blueprint banks everywhere can copy โ€” and a major validation of Solana.

First stage: a proof-of-concept for Solana-based remittances and stablecoin settlement.

Goldfinch Moves to Wind Down Its Credit Protocol

Goldfinch, the DeFi protocol for real-world emerging-market loans, has proposed maintenance mode and winding down Goldfinch Prime โ€” keeping only a legacy app so users can withdraw what's left.

One of its biggest depositors says $50M+ across 8 loans turned into 2 defaults and 6 restructurings, with only ~30% recovered โ€” a stark epitaph for the emerging-market private-credit experiment.

Proposal GIP-87 unwinds one of DeFi's prominent RWA-credit experiments after years of microloans in Africa and Asia; GFI and FIDU remain, but recovery could take 2+ years.

โ€‹Getty Images Rebounds as OpenAI Deal Sparks 200% Premarket Surge

Getty Images Holdings Inc surged as much as 200% in premarket trading after striking a licensing partnership with OpenAI.

Instead of being killed by generative AI, Getty is now embedding its massive image library directly into ChatGPTโ€™s search and discovery layer. The deal signals a shift from conflict to distribution, in which traditional content owners are starting to plug into AI platforms rather than fight them.

No financial details were disclosed, and itโ€™s still unclear whether Gettyโ€™s content will be used for model training or strictly for user-facing retrieval. But the market reaction was immediate, a sharp reversal after months of pressure from fears that AI image generation would undercut stock photography demand.

The move also highlights OpenAIโ€™s accelerating push into licensing deals with major media and content providers, building an ecosystem where curated licensed data becomes part of the AI experience layer rather than an external input.

โ€‹โ€‹Treasuries & ETFs Board. Crypto Accumulation & Capital Flows

Weekly snapshot (June 15-22):

The week was marked by small-to-moderate net outflows, continuing the recent trend of volatility and periodic capital withdrawals.

Bitcoin ETFs recorded $227M in net outflows, while Ethereum ETFs saw only $10M in outflows.

Despite this, strong on-balance-sheet demand remains driven by Strategyโ€™s aggressive accumulation strategy and Striveโ€™s innovative SATA mechanism for Bitcoin, while BitMine Immersion Technologies continues to strengthen demand for Ethereum.

Recent treasury activity:
- Strategy buys 520 BTC ($34.9M), total now 847,363 BTC ($54.7B).
โ€‹Sonic Labs Overhauls Leadership as S Token Trades 97% Below Peak

Sonic Labs announces board members Andre Cronje, Michael Kong, and David Richardson are resigning, while Matt Visser is taking over as CEO and Kosta Kourkoumelis is becoming COO.

The new leadership said its first focus is operational discipline and rebuilding trust. Visser said he is not promising an instant turnaround, but wants Sonic to get โ€œ1% betterโ€ every day and let that compound.

Sonic Labs also acknowledged the tokenโ€™s weak performance and falling community sentiment. The team committed to more transparent governance, a dedicated risk and compliance committee, clearer communication, and treating S holders as stakeholders rather than a vanity metric.

Despite the leadership shakeup, Sonic said development has continued without interruption. The company reported 400 merged pull requests in 2026 so far, two official releases, active work on version 2.2.0, and a private testnet under testing.

โ€‹โ€‹MiCA Map: The Countries ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

On July 1 the EU's transition period ends. No CASP license, no serving European users. So who's actually issuing them?

Germany is running away with it: 57 licenses. Netherlands follows at 26, then France 21, Malta 15, Cyprus 13, Ireland 12.

The other half of the map tells the real story. Six countries are still at zero: ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฑ ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ด ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡บ ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Same rulebook, wildly different speeds.

Germany built Europe's licensing on-ramp. Most of the bloc hasn't issued a single one.

Next up: the exchanges that made the cut. Which country surprises you most? ๐Ÿ‘‡
โ€‹โ€‹MiCA Map: The Exchanges ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

The July 1 deadline split crypto in two.

โœ… Licensed across the EEA: Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Crypto com, Bybit, Gemini, Gate, KuCoin and more. The majors complied.

โ›”๏ธOut: Binance (pending, stuck at ESMA, EU cut from July 1), Bitget (pending), MEXC and HTX (didn't apply).

The biggest name in crypto is days from the deadline with no green light. Which side surprises you?
โ€‹โ€‹MiCA Map: The Stablecoins๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

MiCA hit stablecoins harder than any exchange. Whole categories got wiped, not just individual firms.

โœ… Approved: Circle's USDC and EURC, SocGen's EURCV, Banking Circle's EURI, Membrane's EUROe, Paxos's USDG. The euro-issuers won the rails, and Circle is the only major USD stable cleared for the EU.

โ›”๏ธ Out: Tether's USDT (declined), Ethena's USDe (banned by BaFin), Ripple's RLUSD (missed the deadline), plus every yield-bearing (USDY, USDf), decentralized (DAI, USDS, GHO) and algorithmic (USDD) dollar.

The #1 stablecoin on earth chose to walk rather than comply, and Circle just inherited Europe. Who fills the USDT gap?

ICE and OKX Form 50/50 Joint Venture to Tokenize NYSE Equities

Named OKXICE and co-chaired by former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, the venture plans to register as a U.S. broker-dealer and futures commission merchant, opening NYSE-listed equities and ICE futures to OKX's 120 million users on-chain.

It deepens a relationship that began with ICE's $200M investment in OKX at a $25B valuation earlier this year. Both sides say they will explore additional blockchain-based markets, subject to regulatory approvals.

The owner of the New York Stock Exchange and one of the largest global crypto exchanges splitting a tokenized-markets venture down the middle marks one of the deepest TradFi and crypto tie-ups to date.

Franklin Templeton acquires 250 Digital, Launches Crypto Arm

Franklin Templeton is building out a dedicated active crypto arm, Franklin Crypto, aimed at institutional allocators. The deal brings in the 250 Digital team and all liquid crypto strategies it ran after spinning out of CoinFund earlier this year.

Christopher Perkins will lead the new division, with 250 Digital CIO Seth Ginns keeping the CIO role. Terms were not disclosed, though part of the consideration is being paid in BENJI, the token tied to Franklin's on-chain money-market fund.

With Franklin Crypto, one of the world's largest asset managers now runs an in-house active crypto desk built for institutions, not just an ETF wrapper.

Synthetix Deprecates sUSD, Winds It Down at 4:1 SNX

Founder Kain Warwick confirmed the original SNX-backed sUSD will be retired after more than a year below its dollar peg. Holders can redeem at 4:1 SNX, a premium to par, paired with a lockup.

The decision follows v3 exchange failures, slow v4 scaling, and no native yield on sUSD. Supply was cut from over $1B in an orderly reduction, but roughly $50M of debt remains, more than current revenue can service.

With the treasury unable to keep buying back sUSD indefinitely, Synthetix is choosing an orderly wind-down over an open-ended defense of the peg.

SpaceX Signs $6.3B Compute Deal With Reflection AI

Reflection, an open-source AI startup founded by two former Google DeepMind researchers, will tap Nvidia GB300 capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 2 data center near Memphis, in an agreement worth up to $6.3B.

From July 2026, Reflection will pay $150M per month through 2029. Either company can exit on 90 days' notice after the first three months.

The deal is Reflection's first compute agreement and one of the largest publicly disclosed open-AI infrastructure commitments to date, with SpaceX's external compute backlog now topping $80B through 2029.

Ripple Wins Preliminary MiCA Approval in Luxembourg

Luxembourg's regulator, the CSSF, issued Ripple a Green Light Letter toward a MiCA crypto-asset service provider (CASP) license. Once finalized, a single CASP authorization passports across all 30 EEA countries, the largest expansion of Ripple's regulated reach in Europe to date.

Paired with its existing Luxembourg electronic money institution (EMI) license, the approval clears a path for Ripple to issue and redeem its RLUSD stablecoin for European clients under MiCA. For now it is preliminary, still subject to final conditions.

One license, 30 markets: instead of seeking approval country by country, Ripple can serve the entire European Economic Area from its Luxembourg base.

Google Invests $75M in A24 for AI Filmmaking

Google is taking a roughly $75M equity stake in A24, the studio behind Backrooms, as part of a multiyear, nonexclusive research partnership with Google DeepMind. It is Google's first equity stake in a film studio.

A24 filmmakers gain hands-on access to DeepMind's research infrastructure, while DeepMind gets real-time feedback from working directors. An early project at A24 Labs uses AI to generate storyboards.

The deal does not give Google access to A24's existing film library or content data. DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis framed the goal as building tools that work with artists from day one, not in isolation.
