Bitcoin's hashrate has been declining for 287 consecutive days, marking the longest miner capitulation in history. Mining difficulty has fallen nearly 20% from its all-time highβ€”the third-largest decline on record.

Despite this, mining stocks continue to rise.

Analysts attribute the divergence to miners increasingly shifting their focus from Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure and services.

The CEO of MARA, the largest publicly traded Bitcoin miner in the U.S., recently said that the company's AI business is now generating significantly more revenue than its cryptocurrency mining operations.

Major miner Riot sold 4,300 bitcoins and closed the quarter with a $237 million loss

American mining company Riot Platforms reported selling 4,300 BTC to fund operations and expand its data center network.

At the end of the second quarter, the company held 11,380 BTC on its balance sheet, of which 5,821 BTC are pledged as collateral for loans. This ranks Riot 13th among the largest corporate bitcoin holders.

During the quarter, Riot mined 1,587 BTC, an 11% increase from the previous year. The average cost to mine one bitcoin, excluding depreciation, was $49,912.

However, mining revenue decreased by 19.3% to $113.7 million, and the company's net loss amounted to $237 million.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the company signed a 20-year contract to provide computing power to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude neural network. The contract is expected to generate approximately $9.1 billion in revenue for Riot by 2048.

Cosmostation Wallet will discontinue customer services starting September 1.

Cosmostation is a wallet for the Cosmos (ATOM) ecosystem. Some experts believe its shutdown could accelerate liquidity outflows from Cosmos and increase selling pressure on the native ATOM token.

The Antminer S21 XP series topped the miner profitability rankings for July

The Antminer S21 XP 270 TH/s ASIC miner model demonstrated the best profitability among tested devices for July 2026, according to a report by data center operator Intelion.

Over the past month, its profitability reached 1.12% (13.42% annualized). The top three also included the Antminer S21 PRO 234 TH/s MIX and the Whatsminer M70 222 TH/s.

According to Intelion, the mining economy in July was shaped by factors such as a sequential decrease in network difficulty and the stabilization of the Bitcoin exchange rate following a prolonged decline.

Analysts noted that the July dynamics reflect the adaptation of the network's total computing power to the changed market conditions.

Ethereum plans to protect the network from quantum threats by December 2029

Developers from the Ethereum Foundation have published a list of 62 proposals (EIPs) for the future HegotΓ‘ upgrade and set a goal to protect the network from the quantum threat by December 2029.

Two changes have been designated as mandatory. The first, FOCIL (EIP-7805), is intended to prevent large block builders from censoring individual transactions.

The second, Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), will add account abstraction to Ethereum. Wallets will be able to use their own signature schemes, pay fees on behalf of users, and combine multiple actions into a single transaction without external services.

The HegotΓ‘ upgrade itself will not yet implement quantum protection, but the EF describes it as a stage upon which the schedule for subsequent hard forks depends.
