"What exactly do you like about country music? Is it the harmonies, twang and heatbreak that brought you here? Or was it a myth. A myth that tells us country music is patriotic music, that it’s the product of cowboys around campfires and not from chain gangs and cotton mills and sweaty dancefloors...that it’s a genre made for some but not for everyone...That siding with power, and religion, and money is the role of songs with fiddle and banjo in them. This post is an oversimplification, it’s a tale better told by people who aren’t me, but it’s as close to a mission statement as I’ll ever write.
