Ben jij fan van AI en wil je tips, tricks en inspiratie uitwisselen met anderen? Kom dan op donderdag 27 maart van 17.00 tot 21.00 uur naar Vlampijpstraat 84 in Utrecht voor Let’s plAi!

We gaan het hebben over vragen als:

-Hoe gebruik jij AI en wat vind je het leukst om ermee te doen?

-Waar loop je tegenaan en wat wil je nog leren?

Join us for an evening of live coded music by artists from the Netherlands Coding Live community (NL_CL)!

This evening is organised as a satellite event leading up to the International Conference on Live Coding (ICLC), taking place in Barcelona at the end of May. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first ICLC, it has been a decade of live coding, creative experimentation, and pushing the boundaries of what performance can be.

During the concert, the performers explore the theme of "Liveness", a celebration of improvisation, real-time creation, and the glitches and sparks that make live coding so electrifying. Come witness code come alive!

Join us for an evening with Ivan Henriques; environmentalist, transdisciplinary artist and researcher. His work explores hybrids of living and non-living systems, creating installations that resonate between humans, other organisms and their environments.

In this talk, he will share grounded examples and speculative ideas on attunement between living and inorganic systems. Expect a journey into multispecies encounters, symbiosis, and possible collaborations for shared futures on a damaged planet.

How can we build electronics differently? In this 2-day workshop, artists Stefanie Wuschitz and Patrícia J. Reis introduce Feminist Hardware by guiding participants in making functional circuit boards from natural clay and recycled silver. You’ll shape and fire the clay, paint conductive pathways, and solder components to create interactive microcontroller boards that connect to LEDs, sensors, speakers and more.

As feminist artists and founders of Mz Baltazar’s Laboratory in Vienna, Wuschitz and Reis challenge the extractive and gendered structures of mainstream technology. They open up space for approaches rooted in care, sustainability, and more-than-human collaboration.

The results will be presented during the Ground Exhibition from 8 to 22 November. See you there!

What does technology look like when shaped through feminist, queer, and decolonial perspectives? During the meetup Code, Clay and Kinship, artists and researchers  Patrícia J. Reis and Stefanie Wuschitz invite us to explore approaches that foreground care, reciprocity, and materiality in our entanglements with more-than-human life.

This meetup also serves as the theoretical framework for the workshop 'Feminist Hardware: Making Printed Circuit Boards with Natural Clay' where participants will experiment with natural materials and recycled metals to imagine new forms of hardware.

What happens when we begin to see machines not as passive tools, but as active collaborators in shaping our world?

On 14 November, CCU hosts the launch of Joost Rekveld’s new book Liberate the Machines!, an evening that combines a book launch and film screening with a conversation between Joost Rekveld and Marloes de Valk.

Joost Rekveld has long been exploring the hidden lives of technology, asking how machines can be liberated from purely functional purposes and instead become partners in artistic and ecological research. His work invites us to consider the agency of technological bodies, and how they might participate in a wider web of more-than-human relations.

Marloes de Valk is a software artist and writer in the post-despair stage of coping with the threat of global warming and being spied on by the devices surrounding her.

We reflect on the role of machines in our shared futures, as part of CCU’s wider research as a Zoöp.

Above the Ground exhibition, the CCU-studio will be turned into an alternative arcade with various installations and consoles to play with. The majority of the hardware is saved from the trash and tells a unique story. Dust off the old electronics in your attic, and get some inspiration on how to set up your own homemade gaming station! If you have any tech you’d like to repurpose, or perhaps your own e-waste arcade, feel free to bring them to the meetup. You don’t need any preexisting knowledge or tech/gaming skills to join this meetup.

Together we explore ways to develop a healthier relationship with our day-to-day devices, and learn about the principles of permacomputing. Discover how you can find value in abandoned electronics, and challenge your friends!

We close the Ground season with an afternoon dedicated to attentive listening and multispecies connection. The day begins with a Sound Ecologies Walkshop hosted by Werner de Valk, featuring contributions from Matthias Hurtl with Listening to the Cracks and Nico García Peguinho with Sensing the Forest. Together they explore how sound can reveal the hidden life and shifting ecologies of our surroundings.

As daylight fades, Friso and Bart from Nightwalkers introduce a nocturnal perspective on urban sensing. Their long-running walking practice invites participants to experience the city after dark, where slower movement and shifting perception open up new ways of noticing urban atmospheres and multispecies encounters.

In the evening of the Ground Finissage, the multispecies concert carries the day’s themes into performance.

The concert begins with Niels Gräber and Isaac van den Aker, who create sound with and through the garden itself, followed by Sonified Garden by Sunjoo Lee and Korhan Erel. On a sunny August day, Korhan and Sunjoo took a deep listen to the Electric Garden’s vibrant soundscape. Inspired by its living energies, they created an audiovisual performance shaped by the garden’s fermenting ecosystem.

Nico García Peguinho presents Sensing the Alice Holt Forest, an audiovisual work based on the extensive aural dataset of the Sensing the Forest project.

The finissage offers a moment to reflect, listen and celebrate the closing of Ground, while carrying its questions and inspirations into what comes next.
