Hey Creative Coders!

We have two events about Esolangs coming up 🪄 these events are for those interested in exploring unconventional, creative languages designed to challenge traditional coding norms. If traditional programming hasn’t resonated with you, this workshop offers a new perspective that might click! Both are suitable for beginners, you just need to bring your curiosity and an open mind!

In the meetup on Thursday 17 October, David Zwitser will introduce BQN and host a live demo. Afterwards, Daniel Temkin will join online from New York to present his research on programming languages that move beyond English and Western logic, incorporating languages like Arabic and Yoruba.

Join us in exploring microbial fuel cells (MFCs), little mud-based energy sources that turn bacteria into power generators!

In the first session, we’ll get our hands dirty building these unique cells, where bacteria naturally produce electricity as they break down organic matter. Over the next two weeks, the cells will ferment and grow into a thriving bacterial community.

When we meet again for the second session, we’ll experiment with electronics, designing circuits and repurposing old components to tap into the energy we’ve cultivated. We’ll wrap up with an open discussion on the creative and scientific possibilities of these living, electricity-producing mud cells.

Join us for an evening of live coded music by artists from the Netherlands Coding Live community (NL_CL)!

This evening is organised as a satellite event leading up to the International Conference on Live Coding (ICLC), taking place in Barcelona at the end of May. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first ICLC, it has been a decade of live coding, creative experimentation, and pushing the boundaries of what performance can be.

During the concert, the performers explore the theme of "Liveness", a celebration of improvisation, real-time creation, and the glitches and sparks that make live coding so electrifying. Come witness code come alive!
