p5.js Beginner Workshop

In this Creative Coding beginners workshop, Maxim Schoemaker will guide you through the basics of making animations in p5.js. You will learn how to set up a canvas, draw basic shapes, animate those shapes and much more! The course is light on math and does not require programming experience. It is meant for creatives looking to express themselves through code and for programmers looking to apply their coding skills creatively.

At the end of the workshop you will be able to produce a perfectly looping animation using nothing but code!

Beginnerworkshop: Reshape Photographs Through Code

Photos hold the power to tell extensive stories. However, with photo editing tools, you get the chance to reshape these photographs and alter their meaning. You can emphasize the story, or make the photograph express something completely different. In this day and age, it is normalized to use inaccessible software for photo editing, locked behind a paywall or subscription service. However, this is not the only way to edit photos. We propose to use Processing, a free, open source software which requires no money to work with, and allows you the similar tools to alter images.

In this workshop, artist Wilbert Vogel will teach you to reshape photographs, collages, and composition through coding in Processing. You can bring photos of your choice and learn all the necessary tools with programming software Processing to create your own alterations to them.

We are thrilled to announce our biggest Algorave yet: As part of ICLC 2023 on April 22nd in Tivoli Vredenburg.

During this club night, the raw edges of raves come together with futuristic sounds, having the crowd dance to algorithms. Algoraves are a new movement in club culture. The artists, who take center stage, create their beats and visuals by writing code in real-time. This will be the biggest Algorave in Utrecht so far with a line-up packed with international artists from the livecoding community. Come and experience it yourself!

Do you want to learn how to use TouchDesigner and Kinect? Join our workshop April 1st. During the workshop Volumetric Data, you will learn how to use the Kinect to create a Point Cloud within Touchdesigner. We will explore different types of effects, tools and means of interaction with which you can create cool interactive installations.

Utrecht based visual media artist, researcher and educator Carolien Teunisse will be your host during the workshop. With her work she aims to discover interesting dialogues that occur between different types of media, merging realities and between humans and technology by using projection- and sensing devices to create installations, immersive experiences and performances.

OPEN CALL FOR RECODING REMKO SCHA (deadline: May 14)

This autumn, LIMA media art and Nieuwe Instituut will present ‘REBOOT. Pioneering digital art’, an exhibition at Nieuwe Instituut. Remko Scha's Institute of Artificial Art Amsterdam (IAAA, 1990-present) is part of this exhibition.

Leading up to this exhibition, some of the iconic artworks will be explored and contextualised within a collaborative trajectory entitled Digital Care - this is an open process together with artists, producers, scholars, and the public, exploring what it means to present these works today and in the future. As part of Digital Care, some of works will function as examples to inspire novel reflections, or re-coding.

Workshop: Working with shaders in TouchDesigner

It’s workshop time! July 1st, we will be joined by Darien Brito with a TouchDesigner workshop about shaders in TouchDesigner.

TouchDesigner is rapidly becoming the de facto software for audiovisual performances, installations, projection mapping, and interactivity in experimental, artistic, and commercial projects. In this workshop, we will focus on understanding the principles and patterns using shaders in TouchDesigner. We will explore the idea of pixels as containers for data, beyond just elements to draw things on the screen, and study practical applications that you can later integrate into your projects.
