No matter how you slice it, Putin and the Russian state writ large is now and has always been firmly anti-nationalist in its convictions. This is well documented.
Nobody knows this truth better than Russian nationalists, the most fervent of which are at this point either living out the rest of their lives in hellish Russian prisons, or living abroad.

He *is* there to “denazify”, among other things. He stated this repeatedly throughout the speech, and for good reason- he means it.

Joint Statement on Further Restrictive Economic Measures
We, the leaders of the European Commission, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States condemn Putin’s war of choice and attacks on the sovereign nation and people of Ukraine. We stand with the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian…
Christianity’s action upon pagan society has a few consequences-
1. The desacralization of the world. God is essentially seperate from creation. He makes the world, but the world is not an emanation from him. This affects how we look at nature. Is it sacred and holy? Or is it debased and degraded.
2. All men are equal in their souls. All souls need to come to Jesus. Therefore all must submit to Christianity, including all foreigners.
3. Salvation is not for the few, it is for everyone. And it is the highest good, therefore it must be enforced. In its extreme protestant form, but to a slightly lesser degree under Catholicism, the intense “moral codes” of Christianity demand the same from all, so that all can equally participate in the ultimate good of salvation.
Communism
Under communism, the world remains desacralized. There is no longer any spiritual component of the universe whatsoever, but this is not dramatically different from Christianity, which already did the heavy lifting to remove God from the world and put him far away in heaven.
The old idea of salvation in the beyond is replaced by an earthly salvation but the reasoning is the same. All men are equal in worth and desserts. But to help them achieve paradise, we need to institute special laws. They cannot disagree with the orthodoxy, since the success of the enterprise demand everyone think the same. There are more than codes of conduct, there are codes of belief. Disbelief is dangerous, and the source of failure. Therefore, unbelievers have to be rooted out, even if they haven’t broken a law yet. People prone to disagree with the new order, landed elites, intellectuals and even less then entirely fanatic common folk have to be immediately murdered. This is for the good of the whole, since salvation is for everybody, and what is good implies the necessity of the means to bring it about.
This is a monotheistic attitude to the universe, and the disbelief in god didn’t change the attitude. That’s why “heresy” is only a big deal to Abrahamists. It endangers our equal souls’ common journey to paradise. Paganism knows only codes of conduct, with everyone free to believe what they wish. There are no sectarian or religious disputes within the pagan paradigm, though there are wide differences in belief. The order of the whole is maintained, and hierarchy, because men each have a special sacred role to play in a divine universe. Nature is sacred, the social order is created by the Gods. Men have unequal abilities, and even unequal souls, and it is besides the point to railroad the lesser souls into behaviors improper to them. This allows them to live peacefully and happily, without the guilt of being unable to live up to the standard of sages. Neither must the sages be cast down and destroyed, since their pride and position are viewed not as sinful, but natural and healthy.
Pagan societies are eminently stable, because they are adapted to man’s differences and his needs. The only case of truly stable long term monotheism is Judaism, and this is because it was able to impose its totalitarian restrictions on a small group and weed out the doubters (the other 10 tribes besides Judah and Levi). They maintained this through inorganic nomocracy and the happy chance of surviving long enough for Christianity to carve out a special and eternal (till Judgement Day) place within its territory, where they could live as a cohesive, priestly and parasitic group with very little of the variation in human types normal society sees and paganism exalts and protects.
