The final scene of Stanley Kubrick’s “Paths of Glory”.
He (Kubrick) went on to marry the girl signing.
He (Kubrick) went on to marry the girl signing.
The moon landing was faked with pretty primitive tech by the standards of late 60s Hollywood and far from being done in exotic austrailia or whereever, it was done in the lookout mountain studios, the same guys who made all the vids of “nukes” blowing model houses to pieces (without so much as moving the camera)
Kubrick’s professionalism and attention to detail would have precluded many absurdities in the moon landing footage. And its highly unlikely the man who brought us Barry Lyndon would have offered us “golf on the moon” and those ridiculous dune buggies. No, it was some cynical hacks who did that. Also, had he done the moon landing he would have had no problem getting funds for Napoleon. Then there is the fact that high level operations are never subcontracted.
No, the moon landing wasn’t Kubrick, Kubrick was just a very perceptive man and a sensitive artist who made extremely detailed films that appeal to audiences as much as afficionados. The difficulty with any artist gifted to such a degree, like Shakespeare, is twofold.
1. The extreme psychic sensitivity of great artists gives them an appearance of omniscience that they do not in fact possess. They are directed to imitate the world, which they do my means of latent powers from the muses and Apollo. They are not driven to actually KNOW what they are saying or presenting.
2. The magnetism of their work drives men to WANT to study them, and rationalize their aesthetic appreciation as a result of carefully planned “messages” in the work. This approach can only be fruitful in exposing those elements of reality that point to universal truths- it can not be used to claim fot the Poet or Artist a godlike or even philosophical/dianoetic understanding of what, exactly, he means to say. The problem then becomes that people spend too much time analyzing something they enjoy, rather than considering the bigger issues, or forcing the greater into the lesser thing.
Explained is the actual mechanism of this (artist as psychic imitator). It has nothing to do with Gnostic fantasies of an evil hierarchy of gods that like to tease us. That mentality is a symptom of ignorance and disease, it isn’t productive of truths.

For all things are known by something similar to them: the sensible by sense perception, the scientific object by science, the intelligible by the intellect, the One by what is like the One. So then, when thinking, the soul knows both itself and what it thinks through ‘touch’, as we said, but when it is transcending thinking, it knows neither itself nor that towards which it directed its own ‘one’.
