Jacinda Ardern is releasing her first children’s book, Mum’s Busy Work.

The book, which Ardern claims celebrates working mothers and their children, is supposedly inspired by conversations with her daughter, Neve, during her tenure as prime minister.

Ardern became prime minister in 2017 and had her daughter in 2018.

Despite her often-criticized leadership and abrupt resignation, she now appears to be repackaging her political image through the lens of motherhood.

“I hope every child knows they are our life’s greatest work,” Ardern stated.

Christchurch illustrator Ruby Jones, an admirer of Ardern, provided the book’s artwork and expressed excitement about working with her. Jones believes Mum’s Busy Work captures special family moments, though many New Zealanders may recall Ardern’s time in office as marked by divisive policies rather than warm parenting anecdotes.

The book is set for release on September 30 in New Zealand, Australia, the US, and the UK.

Meanwhile, Ardern, who now lives in Boston with her husband and daughter, continues to build her post-political career as a lecturer and public speaker.

UKRAINIAN TROOPS TRAPPED IN KURSK

Putin has called on the troops to surrender, however during a visit to the headquarters of the Kursk troops, he said that there will be “no mercy for the terrorists who invaded Russian territory”. A new coronavirus, feared to be able to spread to humans, has been discovered by a China-linked scientist.

Researchers from Brazil and colleagues affiliated with the University of Hong Kong detected the new strain after swabbing the mouths and rectums of bats.

The novel strain is closely related to MERS - a disease that kills about 35 percent of the people it infects.

The makeup of the virus' spike protein, which it uses to trigger an infection, means it can probably infect human cells, the researchers warned.

Revealing the discovery in Brazil, lead researcher Dr Bruna Silverio, from the University of Sao Paulo, said: 'Right now, we aren't sure it can infect humans.

'But we detected parts of the virus' spike protein (which binds to mammalian cells) suggesting potential interaction with the receptor used by MERS-CoV.'

COUNCILLOR APOLOGISES TO "FLUORIDE CRAZIES" DURING SHAMBOLIC MEETING

Today during a special meeting, Whangarei District Council Councillor Gavin Benney apologized to his supporters and thanked them for their unwavering support as he gave a great opening address in which he put forward his motion which included 13 points.

He was sorry because what was being decided might be seen as a step backwards in the war to stop fluoridation. However it was a compromise so that councillors would not end up with personal liability or imprisonment at this stage.

The up shot of it was that should an interim relief from fluoridation NOT be granted tomorrow in the Wellington High Court then fluoridation preparation would start on March 19 so that the WDC was continuing to comply with the Director-General of Health, who ordered all 14 councils to fluoridate their water supplies by March 28.

Hydrofluorosilicic acid, the term that Benney says we ought to use to be more accurate, is used to artificially fluoridate water, to reduce the occurrence of dental issues according to the State. When dissolved in water, hydrofluorosilicic acid forms the fluoride ion.

Hydrofluorosilicic acid, (also known as fluorosilicic acid, hexafluorosilicic acid), is a colourless to pale yellow liquid, poisonous and corrosive, with a pungent odour and irritating fumes.

There was then, what can only be described as an attempted highjacking of the meeting as opposition councillors attempted to put through ammendments that negated Cr Benney's and would see any court action halted. The amendments were voted down and the court action continues.

There has been an attempt to suggest that the $4.6 million paid by central government towards the fluoridation infrastructure would need to be paid back by the council if they did not comply with the DG directive. There is controversy about the initial contract and whether or not they are obligated to pay that back or not.

The discussion around the court action and infrastructure costs is simply an attempt to scare rate payers that their rates would alledgedly go up 3-4% due to this action.

Further attempts have been made to discredit the pro clean drinking water activists by making out like they are a danger to the council with extra security, bag checks and limits on numbers in the chambers.

80 supporters were given access with dozens more outside and online.

Death threats against council have also been alledged but the police have not been alerted. Antifluoride campaigners are concerned this could all lead to a false flag pinned on them to discredit the movement and stop national debate.

I am, like you, an atheist and I appreciate you have a disdain for anything spiritual and I understand the point you were attempting to make, but you had a terrible argument that ended up being offensive to indigenous people.

There is an oblix on top of one of our volcanos in Auckland that commemorates the Māori race because at the turn of the 1900s, the impact of the ‘modernity’ you were so proudly boasting almost wiped the entire race of Māori out.

For them to be told by a foreigner that they should be grateful for almost being exterminated by the consequences of colnislaim – from disease, sickness and sudden technology is a very privileged position to be in Bill.

Indigenous people are not asking to go back to the point of civilization contact, they are asking for the space to be authentically themselves. They aren’t asking to dump electricity and medicine.

As I acknowledged earlier, I don’t believe in a God, but I did believe my daughter had the right to learn the mother tongue of her birth country and despite being white, she has been in a Māori immersion class all her life and speaks Māori fluently. I’m not a religious person Bill, but when my daughter speaks a prayer in Māori at my own table before we eat, it connects me more deeply to being a New Zealander than anything else.

I don’t need to believe in Māori cosmology to appreciate it any more than I need to be Muslim to appreciate the poetry of the Quran or Christian to appreciate the art of the Sistine Chapel.

Your portrayal of Māori values and criticism of our giving our Mountain personhood is misplaced, ignorant and mean spirited.

You are better than this.

On Tuesday the High Court in Wellington heard Whangarei District Council’s (WDC) application seeking an interim injunction to allow the council to delay starting fluoridation until their substantive case is heard later in the year. Under an Amendment to the Health Act that came into force in 2021, the Director-General of Health (DGoH) ordered WDC in July 2022 to start fluoridation by 28th March 2025.

WDC lawyer, Jeremy Browne, told the court that WDC were between a rock and a hard place. He said the council has been ordered to start fluoridation under one law, but to do so would cause the council to act unlawfully under another law. The Water Services Drinking Act (2021) requires councils to provide “safe” drinking water. “Safe” in relation to drinking water, means drinking water that is unlikely to cause a serious risk of death, injury, or illness.

Providing safe drinking water was a legislative requirement that was set in stone i.e. could not be challenged, however, the Director-General has been given legislative authority to order fluoridation to start, stop, or not be started.

Browne argued that the advice given to the DGoH did not provide her with the correct information which led to an incorrect decision being made. The Judge seemed to take the view that unless WDC would be prosecuted for this breach, the mere fact that it was directed to do something unlawful was not grounds for issuing an interim injunction!

Jeremy Browne provided written evidence from the US National Toxicology Program’s (NTP) eight year review, published in August 2024, that found fluoride is a neurotoxicant and they were confident that this harm to developing brains occurs when water contains 1.5ppm. The NTP but did not rule out it could be happening at lower levels, with most high quality studies being at 0.7ppm or below. Browne noted that New Zealand’s fluoridation levels (allowing up to 1ppm) were nearly 50% higher than the studies from Canada where harm was found at 0.59ppm.

Browne provided affidavits from two of the most eminent scientists in the field of toxicology; Bruce Lanphear and Philippe Grandjean. These scientists have been responsible for providing the evidence that the US Environmental Protection Agency relies on for lead and mercury, respectively. He argued that the advice provided to the Director General of Health, particularly by Dr Ian Town, a lung specialist, was slanted and misleading and that Dr Town’s area of expertise did not compare to Lanphear and Grandjean’s who are both world-renowned experts in exactly the subject being discussed.

Browne said "What we are witnessing from the Ministry of Health, is institutional inertia – it is very difficult for a government institution to change its mind on anything".

Jason Varuhas, lawyer for the Crown, criticised WDC for asking the court for the injunction despite this being the only legal action available to the council. He also criticised WDC for not taking action when they were first directed. Browne pointed out that the most compelling research was only published in the second half of last year.

Varuhas told the court that the Ministry of Health had reviewed all evidence and had found that fluoridation was safe and effective. He claimed that Lanphear and Grandjean had only looked at a narrow range of studies and had only looked at studies that supported their view. He also claimed that fluoridation would primarily help poor Maori children in Whangarei. Varuhas tried to compare decay rates in Whangarei with Wellington to support his point. Yet it is well known, as was pointed out by Browne, that high income city dwellers had better teeth than low income rural dwellers, making the comparison a deliberate deception. Browne also said the three top reviews of the last 25 years found there was no evidence that fluoridation improved social equity in oral health and that the latest Cochrane Review of 2024 found, at best, fluoridation reduced dental decay rates by only 3%.
