RESERVE BANK GOVERNOR RESIGNS

RNZ reports:

The Reserve Bank Governor Adrian Orr has resigned after seven years in the job.

In a statement, Nicola Willis said Deputy Governor Christian Hawkesby would be Acting Governor until 31 March.

Reserve Bank Governors typically serve five-year terms.

Orr was first appointed in 2018, and reappointed March 2023. His second term was due to end in 2028.

"I wish him well for the future," Willis said.

From 1 April, Willis - taking advice from the RBNZ Board, will appoint a temporary Governor for up to six months.

PREBBLE DOESN'T WANT TO GO ALONG WITH A SOCIALIST MANIFESTO

From 1News:

Former Act leader and Labour minister Richard Prebble has resigned from the Waitangi Tribunal.
He was appointed to the role in October 2024 by Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka.
In a NZ Herald column on Wednesday, Prebble said the Waitangi Tribunal has turned the Treaty upside down.
He said he had no interest in participating in the Tribunal while it turned the Treaty into a "socialist manifesto".
In a statement, Potaka said his focus was now on "moving swiftly to complete the appointment of a new member".

GOFF IS A GONNA AS HIGH COMMISSIONER

From the NZ Herald:

Phil Goff’s position as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom is now “untenable” Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters’ office says, off the back of “deeply disappointing” comments the former Auckland mayor made regarding Donald Trump.

Asking a question of Finnish Foreign Affairs Minister Elina Valtonen at a Chatham House event in London this week, Goff said he had been re-reading a speech from former UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1938 after the Munich Agreement.

“He turned to Chamberlain, he said, ‘You had the choice between war and dishonour. You chose dishonour, yet you will have war’,” Goff said,

“President Trump has restored the bust of Churchill to the Oval Office. But do you think he really understands history?”

In a statement from a spokesperson for Peters to the Herald said: “Phil Goff’s comments are deeply disappointing.”

“They do not represent the views of the NZ Government and make his position as High Commissioner to London untenable.

“We have asked the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Bede Corry, to now work through with Mr Goff the upcoming leadership transition at the New Zealand High Commission in London.”

Following Goff’s question, those in attendance at the event laughed. The Finnish minister also smirked and said she would limit her comments, clearly recognising the delicacy that remarks about Trump require.

“In this time, and I did it myself, I quoted Sir Winston Churchill and he has made some very timeless remarks,” she said, smirking again.

Former Labour Prime Minister Helen Clark, whose Cabinet Phil Goff served in, posted on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the revelations saying: This looks like a very thin excuse for sacking a highly respected former #NZ Foreign Minister from his post as High Commissioner to the UK".

“I have been at Munich Security Conference recently where many draw parallels between Munich 1938 & US actions now.”

It comes as New Zealand attempts to walk a careful line with the United States, which has begun applying significant tariffs against other countries, including Five Eyes partners like Canada.

Speaking earlier this week off the back of the clash between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said he still viewed the US as “reliable”.

“We have a strong partnership with the US, there’s a lot of collaboration, there’s lots we can do together,” Luxon said.

Goff, a former Labour leader and Foreign Affairs Minister, started in the post in January 2023. He left Parliament in 2016 and was Auckland Mayor from November that year until 2022.

Just months into the role, Goff caused offence to Kīngi Tūheitia at an event for the New Zealand delegation in London, after forgetting to perform a karakia and telling the delegation that no one in the room had experienced a Coronation before.

Then-Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said at the time it was “certainly regrettable”.

“It was a mistake. I think it is important, you know, in these sorts of events that we do acknowledge the Crown-Māori relationship, and Kīngi Tūheitia clearly has a relationship with the Crown over here – we should acknowledge that.”

NEW: Pro-Hamas protestors have seized control of the Milstein Library at Barnard College in New York City. They assert that they have "renamed" the facility, now calling it the "Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya Liberated Zone."

The school distributed fliers warning students to clear the building immediately or face consequences. They, instead, ripped them up and threw them on the ground.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna refers four Sanctuary City mayors over to Attorney General Pam Bondi for CRIMINAL PROSECUTION!

In an often fiery hearing today before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, chaired by James Comer, four democrat mayors faced intense questioning from Republican lawmakers.

"Sanctuary cities" is a policy that means different things to different people, but it essentially allows illegal immigrants to be protected from law-enforcement, and President Trump has vowed to end all sanctuary cities. Tom Homan, President Trump's border czar has warned the mayor of Boston, warning that he would "bring hell" to this city over its approach to immigration.

Apparently, these words are no idle threat, and Congresswoman Luna told the four mayors today that they are aiding and abetting criminals and thus committing a federal offence.

The mayors present are Michelle Wu of Boston, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver and Eric Adams of New York.

TO STAND OR NOT TO STAND - A tale of two Americas.

Democrats by their actions showed they were apparently against the following:

Free speech,
Peace in Ukraine,
Ending illegal immigration,
Reducing the US debt,
Cutting taxes,
Detention of dangerous immigrants,
Cutting regulations,

and they also appeared not to approve of a terminally ill child with brain cancer being made an honorary member of the Secret Service. (mb)

The Eurocrats have gone totally mad.

Ursula von der Leyen is reserving €800 BILLION in European defense spending to support Ukraine.

Their default position is to claim moral superiority by doing the exact opposite of anything @DonaldJTrump does - even if it unleashes World War III.

A judge decreed that DOGE could not cancel the credit cards of govt employees. So what did Trump do?

In what’s been called “one of his funniest moves yet”, Donald Trump just reset all those credit cards, which people had been using to buy whatever they wanted, to a credit limit of one dollar making them effectively useless to the employees who have them. 🤣

🇷🇺 The Russian Foreign Ministry accused French President Emmanuel Macron of ‘nuclear blackmail’ in his Wednesday speech

Other statements from the Russian Foreign Ministry:

🔸 Macron's speech finally removes the mask and reveals who is leading the "war party" today.

🔸 Russia has never threatened France and even helped defend its independence during both World Wars. But Macron's remarks pose a threat to Russia.

🔸 Macron’s offer of a ‘nuclear umbrella’ to Europe will not strengthen the security of France or its allies.

🔸 Paris still has no intention of taking Russia's vital interests into account and aims to "force" Moscow to make decisions that suit the West.

🔸 Russia will take Macron's statements on nuclear weapons into account in its defense planning.

2022. “The days of the Russian Federation are numbered. The Russian army is pathetic, it is forced to collect chips from stolen washing machines.”

2025. “Russia is an imminent threat of an unprecedented scale in our lives, we need 800 billion euros in military spending to protect Europe.”

Meanwhile, representatives of the United States and Ukraine will discuss the basics of a deal to resolve the conflict and a six-month ceasefire during peace talks in Riyadh on March 11. 🇺🇸🇺🇦
