PODESTA IN THE NEWS: In 2022, President Joe Biden tapped long-time Democrat operative John Podesta to oversee the disbursement of $375 billon to climate-related initiatives – monies that were included in the dishonestly named "Inflation Reduction Act." Those funds were supposed to be spent on projects that would drive the country towards Democrats’ goal of a 40% reduction in carbon output below 2005 levels by 2030.

In reality, the funds set up a gigantic slush fund within the White House, available to Podesta as he set about boosting Democrats’ prospects in 2024. When Podesta was appointed, Gina McCarthy, Biden’s domestic climate adviser, left the White House. Perhaps she declined to turn what was meant to be an important tool against climate change into a political magic wand.

The left-leaning media tried to prettify the Podesta appointment. The New York Times called him a "veteran Washington insider who spearheaded the Obama administration’s climate strategy," but also highlighted Podesta’s political credentials, which included serving as Bill Clinton’s chief of staff, Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign chair and founder of the Center for American Progress, a leftist think tank. Likely most relevant was that Podesta was brought in to "help salvage a difficult second term for President Barack Obama"; in 2022, with Biden’s approval ratings collapsing, Podesta was brought out of retirement for another rescue mission.

In August 2024, the White House put out a fact sheet touting its accomplishments, citing in particular "over $265 billion in clean energy investments." But the purpose of those investments was not limited to cleaning up the air or reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

The FBI has launched an investigation into former FBI Director James Comey for his "honeypot" operation targeting Trump in 2016, according to the Washington Times.

The announcement comes just days after Kash Patel was sworn in as the new FBI director.

As reported by the Washington Times, the FBI is looking into an off-the-books operation launched in 2015 by Comey.

According to a whistleblower, two undercover female FBI employees infiltrated Trump’s 2016 campaign to act as "honeypots."

"In the intelligence community, a honeypot commonly refers to an undercover operative, usually a woman, who feigns sexual or romantic interest to obtain information from a target," the Washington Times reported.

The whistleblower claimed Comey ordered the investigation and "personally directed it" despite not having a specific crime.

The operation was likely a "fishing expedition" to "find" a crime against Trump.

During a recent interview before the election, Comey was visibly concerned about what Trump would do if reelected.

This is a big deal for many reasons. Chief among them is that NATO is building a massive base right on Romania's border with Ukraine, which Georgescu openly opposes.

RFK Jr halts multimillion-dollar Biden-era COVID-19 vax project

Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has issued a 90-day pause on a a multimillion-dollar contract from the Biden administration to create a new COVID-19 vaccine.

"While it is crucial that the Department [of] Health and Human Services (HHS) support pandemic preparedness, four years of the Biden administration’s failed oversight have made it necessary to review agreements for vaccine production, including Vaxart’s," Kennedy said.

"I look forward to working with Vaxart and medical experts to ensure this work produces safe, effective, and fiscal-minded vaccine technology."

This 90-day stop-work order is for an HHS contract with American biotech company Vaxart Inc., which is working to develop a new COVID-19 vaccine that can be taken orally. The stop-work order comes as 10,000 individuals were slated to begin clinical trials on Monday.

The trial is only paused, not terminated, with Kennedy and other health officials set to examine the study's initial findings over the next 90 days before deciding on next steps.

🔥 Secretary of State Marco Rubio is moving to deny visas for transgender athletes in compliance with President Donald Trump’s directives.

Rubio’s State Department issued a directive on February 24 placing a “permanent fraud bar” on applicants who “misrepresent” their sex while applying for a visa to enter the U.S. to compete in sports.

“In cases where applicants are suspected of misrepresenting their purpose of travel or sex, you should consider whether this misrepresentation is material such that it supports an ineligibility finding,” Rubio’s directive reads, according to the Guardian.

Trump signed an executive order early this month to ban transgender athletes from playing in women’s and girl’s sports in the U.S.

Trump also said that he would deny visas for transgender athletes who hope to compete in the coming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Sovereign Citizens believe they are exempt from the laws of New Zealand. But that doesn’t stop the law from coming after them.

Another hiccup for New Zealand’s court processes – and this one’s a strange one.

In early February, a couple in Raglan was fined $20,000 for unconsented works to their house, following a long court case in which they claimed to be exempt from council rules.

A few days later, at the other end of the country, a man accused of stealing equipment from a rescue helicopter appeared in the Dunedin District Court, arguing that the judge did not have jurisdiction over him. The judge told him: “I’m starting to think you might be wasting my time.”

It is an increasingly common story of so-called sovereign citizens – or “SovCits” – whose legal arguments are based on a fringe belief system that says they are not subject to New Zealand laws.
“It’s just a waste of time for the most part, because if you think about it, a court or a government agency, if they get a request, it doesn’t really matter how absurd it is, they still have to deal with it,” says Charlie Mitchell, a journalist at The Press who started covering conspiracy theories during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I don’t think we’ve reached the point where this is having a material impact on the courts necessarily, but it is clear that these sorts of arguments are more common.”

The phrase “sovereign citizen” refers to people who are anti-government and believe that they are not bound by the laws of the country where they live.
“I think probably the easiest way to understand it is that they are underpinned by this concept called pseudo-law, and pseudo-law is a parallel legal system that sort of vaguely resembles the real legal system but it doesn’t have the legal validity,” says Mitchell.
“So pseudo-law can sound plausible to the lay person, it will cite statutes and it will reference the common law and things like that, but as soon as it comes into contact with the real legal system, it dissolves.”
“A common thread you’ll find in the SovCit world is citation of these kind of obscure or arcane legal theories that really just do not have any relevance in modern society.”

Pharmac chief executive Sarah Fitt has resigned, with her departure effective from May 30, 2025, following a turbulent tenure marked by public and political pressure.

Her resignation follows a petition with over 100,000 signatures in 2021 calling for her removal, as well as past controversies, including leaked emails that drew backlash for their perceived dismissive tone toward patient concerns.

Fitt’s leadership faced criticism over drug funding decisions, particularly regarding cancer treatments and hormone replacement therapy.

While Associate Health Minister David Seymour acknowledged her contributions, both the Pharmac Minister and chairwoman previously refrained from expressing confidence in her.

Fitt’s resignation follows a wave of departures among top health officials in New Zealand.
