The father of a Mt Maunganui College female student put out a message on a community FB page last Saturday detailing her distress at having a confused male student using a female changing room.
Counterspin has been told that the father then met with the college principal on the following Monday morning to discuss the situation.
A teacher from the Mount College offered clarification:
"There are a third set of changing rooms for those that require them.
This is not an ongoing issue and relates to one isolated incident that has been dealt with by the original poster and senior management."
The issue was to do with one student choosing not to opt for the third set of changing rooms that has been available since at least 2019 according to Olsen. And was not a widespread issue it is reported.
"These are available when we know they are required and are unlocked accordingly. Each student who requires them will get their own private changing room. The reasons that this was not done are details that are not mine to make public, isolated in terms of one student. Once we were aware what was happening it was dealt with and corrected."

RFK Jr halts multimillion-dollar Biden-era COVID-19 vax project
Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has issued a 90-day pause on a a multimillion-dollar contract from the Biden administration to create a new COVID-19 vaccine.
"While it is crucial that the Department [of] Health and Human Services (HHS) support pandemic preparedness, four years of the Biden administration’s failed oversight have made it necessary to review agreements for vaccine production, including Vaxart’s," Kennedy said.
"I look forward to working with Vaxart and medical experts to ensure this work produces safe, effective, and fiscal-minded vaccine technology."
This 90-day stop-work order is for an HHS contract with American biotech company Vaxart Inc., which is working to develop a new COVID-19 vaccine that can be taken orally. The stop-work order comes as 10,000 individuals were slated to begin clinical trials on Monday.
The trial is only paused, not terminated, with Kennedy and other health officials set to examine the study's initial findings over the next 90 days before deciding on next steps.

🔥 Secretary of State Marco Rubio is moving to deny visas for transgender athletes in compliance with President Donald Trump’s directives.
Rubio’s State Department issued a directive on February 24 placing a “permanent fraud bar” on applicants who “misrepresent” their sex while applying for a visa to enter the U.S. to compete in sports.
“In cases where applicants are suspected of misrepresenting their purpose of travel or sex, you should consider whether this misrepresentation is material such that it supports an ineligibility finding,” Rubio’s directive reads, according to the Guardian.
Trump signed an executive order early this month to ban transgender athletes from playing in women’s and girl’s sports in the U.S.
Trump also said that he would deny visas for transgender athletes who hope to compete in the coming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
