Ode to Jim Goad

Jim Goad, America’s greatest satirical journalist since H. L. Mencken, is dead.

James Thaddeus Goad was born on June 12, 1961, in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. He died on June 22, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico of long-term health problems. He had just turned 65.

RIP Jim Goad. He was one of my all-time heroes and favourite writers. A fiercely honest man who struggled bravely all his life with his demons.

Just yesterday I wondered if he is well. He stopped writing a year ago or so.

This one really hurts. I had no idea Jim Goad had been ill.

I came to his writing late, around 2016, but it still left a lasting mark on me. The radical right desperately needs voices like his: sharp, fearless, darkly funny, and impossible to tame. There are far too few of them.

Rest in peace, Jim Goad. Your work will live on.

I knew that Jim had been ill for a while, but still this was shocking news.

He was one of the best writers of our time, and I am glad I got a chance to tell him that. I am also glad we got to have a few conversations on air. I'll try to dig up the recordings we did together.

A man with integrity and tons of talent. An American writer of a type that will never appear again on the world stage.

Jim Goad will be greatly missed by many including us! I knew that he had been ill for some time but not to what extent or how serious it was. We had the pleasure of having Jim on the show numerous times over the years, closer to 10 if you count the many "multi-guest" appearances for "holyday" streams that he was kind enough to join us for. So it feels like we got to know him pretty well.

We always had a great time with Mr Goad. He was raw, unapologetic, witty, dark & funny. He was a great author. "The Redneck Manifesto" and "The New Church Ladies" are classics.

We will miss you Jim. See you in Valhalla! The fight continues.
