This week highlighted just how unpredictable the digital landscape has become:

1️⃣ Fake CAPTCHAs stealing wallets — Hackers deploy malicious “CAPTCHA” windows to inject Lumma Stealer, harvesting passwords, cookies, tokens and crypto wallet data. 17% of users fell victim in just 3 days.

2️⃣ Illegal mining operation shut down — A Nebraska resident tricked cloud services by posing as an educator with 10,000 students. He pocketed ~$1M through crypto, NFTs and cash.

3️⃣ $2.8M seized from ransomware operator — U.S. DOJ confiscated crypto from a Zeppelin ransomware actor, who laundered funds via mixers and goods.

4️⃣ China’s internet blackout — On August 20, HTTPS traffic was blocked for 74 minutes, cutting the country off from the global web and disrupting services from Apple to Tesla.

5️⃣ AI agent goes rogue — Perplexity’s Comet browser autonomously purchased fake Apple Watches from a spoofed Walmart site, filling in payment details by itself. In another test, it clicked a phishing link disguised as a Wells Fargo email.
