The recent loss to Ivory Coast has actually benefited the French team. It highlighted systemic issues with their high defensive line and dispelled any lingering thoughts of underestimating African opponents. No matter how physically strong Senegal's defense may be, it will struggle to hold up against the world's top forwards, who possess both speed and individual skill.
France and Senegal will kick off Group I with their match against each other. The two teams have faced off only once before, in a significant encounter. Back in 2002, they opened the World Cup together. France was the reigning champion after winning in 1998, but they suffered a shocking 0-1 defeat to Senegal and didnβt even make it out of the group stage, despite having stars like Zidane and Vieira on their roster. Todayβs French team reminds me somewhat of that squadβpacked with talent across all positions, yet seemingly lacking cohesion. Iβm not impressed with their play either. Itβs become clear that MbappΓ© wonβt become the next Messi or Ronaldo, and in fact, Real Madrid seems to perform better without him. Heβs been mired in scandals, which could also impact the national team.
While France is favored in the upcoming match and is considered a strong contender for the tournament, I strongly disagree with that assessment. Senegal has its own challenges as well. Following the scandal at the Africa Cup of Nations final, where they left the field but later won the match, they were ultimately awarded a technical defeat a month later. This had a significant impact on their head coach because winning the Africa Cup would have automatically extended his contract. Now, since they received that technical loss and he was the one who initiated the team's walk-off, he essentially worked for free for three months leading up to the World Cup. Just before their departure to America, he raised this issue and staged a boycott, stating that the team wouldnβt leave for the World Cup until his contract situation was resolved. This led to a delay in their departure and a very thorough inspection upon arrival.
In my opinion, all of this could affect Senegal's morale. Before the tournament starts, Senegal also played two friendly matches: they lost to the U.S. and drew with Saudi Arabia. France surprised many by losing to Ivory Coast at home 1-2 but then bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Northern Ireland. As much as I love France and believe they could be one of the tournament's biggest disappointments, I think they will manage to win this match. A few years ago, Cameroon faced a similar situation with issues surrounding money, and they performed terribly, finishing last in their group after losing all their matches. While I donβt expect that kind of outcome here, I believe Senegal will struggle to cope with star-studded France.

Hello, dear football fans! Let me introduce todayβs opponents. In the second round in Atlanta, the Czech Republic will face South Africa. In their first match, the Czech team played in Guadalajara, Mexico, which is over 1500 meters above sea level, while they trained in Texas. In the second half, they couldnβt offer much resistance against South Korea. The match against South Africa will take place in Atlanta, which is significantly lower in altitude and will definitely impact the Czech team's performance. Both teams started with losses: South Africa lost to Mexico 0-2, and the Czech Republic lost to South Korea 1-2. In their final group stage match, they will play against the favorites of Group A, where a victory will be hard to come by. Therefore, the stakes for this match are very high!
Czech Republic is rightly considered the favorite. Coach Koubeck's team has a higher caliber of players and clearly outmatches their opponent in aerial play. In their first match, South Africa looked sluggish even before the red card, struggling to break out of defense. Bross will likely make the midfield more attacking and mobile with the pairing of Mokoena and Mbatha, but it will be tougher for the South Africans to contain the powerful Czech players through the center. A more balanced midfield, an optimal lineup, Koubeck's attacking adjustments, and an advantage in set pieces should be decisive factors in favor of the Europeans.
Based on the first round, South Africa was the worst-performing team since they struggled to finish their attacks. Additionally, two red cards weakened them even further. The Czechs have tall players over 190 cm, while South African players have an average height of no more than 178 cm, making it tough for them defensively. Flank attacks with crosses into the penalty area will quickly highlight the Czechs' total advantage in this aspect, as shown in their match against Mexico. Itβs clear that for most of the match, South Africa will be focused on defense, while the Czechs will aim to score an early goal to break their resistance. South Africa will have to rely on counterattacks.
