#Ethiopian Medical Association reports doctors’ imprisonment over unpaid wages, calls for urgent action ahead of conference
The Ethiopian Medical Association (#EMA) has expressed concern that doctors in some regions have been imprisoned for demanding unpaid wages, warning that health professionals are working under “many pressures” while their concerns remain unresolved. In a statement ahead of its 61st Annual Medical Conference and International Health Exhibition, set for February 14–15, 2025, in #Addis_Abeba, the EMA said that despite doctors continuing their work under difficult conditions, this has been a year when “doctors have faced non-payment for their duty work,” with some even facing imprisonment for seeking their salaries.
The association also pointed to increasing unemployment among doctors and warned that some “who need urgent medical care due to various illnesses are losing their lives because they cannot receive proper treatment quickly.” While it acknowledged engaging with officials on these issues, the EMA emphasized that “given the magnitude of the problem, it still requires practical responses from many stakeholders.” The upcoming conference is expected to facilitate discussions on challenges faced by “not only doctors but all health professionals,” bringing together experts, government representatives, and over 400 medical professionals.

Message of condolences
It is with profound sadness that we learned of the sudden tragic passing of Dr. Andualem Dagne, a General and HPB Surgeon at Bahir Dar University’s Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital.
His untimely passing is a profound loss to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire medical community. He will be missed deeply as he was dearly loved and respected specially by his residents and members of the department.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his families, friends and all who knew and loved him.
May his soul rest in eternal peace!

Update from MOH for ERMP 2024 Applicants Without NGAT Certificate
As you are aware, we previously submitted a letter to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) regarding the NGAT certificate issue.
Today (27/05/17), an official from the MOH contacted our committee, requesting an urgent list of more than 300 ERMP applicants who do not have NGAT certificate, along with their names and signatures.Following this, the MOH and MOE will coordinate to organize NGAT exam for these applicants before residency admission.
Action Required:
Please complete the Google Form today (28/05/17) at 7:00 DLT.
Important Notes:
✍️ Ensure your signature image is clear enough for printing and crop your signature only avoiding any background trashes (preferably taken in daylight).
✍️ If you know applicants without internet access, please inform them immediately so they can find a way to submit the form.

የረመዳን ፆምን የማያበላሹ የህክምና ተግባራት
1, የአይን ጠብታና የጆሮ ጠብታ መድሀኒቶች ፆምን አያበላሹም።
2, የአስም በሽተኞች የሚነፋ መድሃኒታቸውን (Salbutamol puff) እየፆሙ ቢወስዱ ችግር የለውም።
3, ጥርስን ማስነቀል ወይም ጥርስን ማስሞላት ፆምን አያጠፋም።
4, በምላስ ስር የሚደረጉ ኪኒኖች: የልብ በሽታን (MI) ለማከም ... ለሌሎችም በሽታዎች የሚረዱ መድሀኒቶች እስካልተዋጡ ድረስ ፆምን አያበላሹም።
5, ፆመኛ ሰው የደም ምርመራ ለማስደረግ ብሎ ደሙን ቢሰጥ ፆሙ አይፈርስም።
6, በደምስር (IV) ወይም IM የሚሰጡ ምግብን የማይተኩ መድሀኒቶች (ማስታገሻዎች ፣ ክትባቶች ፣ Antibiotics) እንዲሁም ሲቲስካን (CT Scan) ወይም MRI ለመነሳት በደምስር የሚሰጡ መድሀኒቶች (Intravenous contrast) ፆምን አያበላሹም።
7, በበሽታ ወይም በማንኛውም ምክንያት ሳያውቁ ማስታወክ ፆምን አያጠፋም።
8, ሂጃማ (ዋግምት) ፆምን ያበላሻል ወይስ አያበላሽም በሚሉት ሀሳቦች በዑለማዎች (በዲን አዋቂዎች) መካከል ብዙ ሀሳቦች የተሰጠበት ሲሆን ለመጠንቀቅ ያክል በፆም ሰዓታት ዋግምት ከመደረግ ብንቆጠብ የተሻለ ነው። የሂጃማ (የዋግምት) ድንጋጌ በዘመናዊ የህክምና መንገድ ለምንጠቀመው Phelbotomy ይውላል።
9, ነስር ያለበት ሰው በብዛት እንኳን ደም ቢፈሰው ፆሙ አይበላሽም። እየፆመ ያለ ሰው በአደጋ ወይም በሌላ ምክንያት በብዛት ደም ቢፈሰው ፆሙ ላይ ችግር አይኖረውም። ነገር ግን በዚህ ምክንያት ከታመመና ከደከመ ፆሙን አጥፍቶ መመገብ ይችላል።
10, በጤናዋ ላይ ችግር የማያስከትልባት ከሆነ አንዲት ሴት የወር አበባ የሚያስቆም መድሀኒት ተጠቅማ ረመዳንን ብትፆም ችግር የለውም። አንዲት ሴት የረመዳን ቀናት ፆሞችን ፣ ለይለቱል ቀድር ፣ በሀጅና ዑምራ ላይ ያሉ አንዳንድ ተግባራት የመሳሰሉትን ዒባዳዎች እንዳያመልጧት የወር አበባን የሚያስቆም መድሀኒት መጠቀምዋ ጤናዋ ላይ ችግር የማይስከትል ከሆነ ችግር አይኖረውም። ነገር ግን መድሀኒቶቹ የጎኒዮሽ ጉዳት ስላላቸውና ሴቷ ራሷን ተከሉፍ (ራሷን ማስገደድ) ውስጥ ባታስገባ የተሻለ ይሆናል። ኪኒን ተጠቅማ ግን ብትፆምና ዒባዳዎችን ብትተገብር ተቀባይነት አለው።

There are a total of 373 vacant spots for different programs and schools which were not chosen by applicants and thus are left unfilled. Hence, any unmatched and interested candidate can apply and compete for the vacant spots by emailing the profile and choice of the candidate (full name, ID number, choice of ONLY 1 program and choice of ONLY 2 schools for that chosen program in priority order, i.e. 1st and 2nd) to the following email address: ermpvacantspots@gmail.com ...
