today some guys had to go into the cavern under my house, and that is... amusing
so, i live in an apartment block, on the lowest floor, basically the same height than the street. and because reasons that i havent really asked about as much as i could have done, under this apartment block, there is a... "space", lets say. its all dirt and mud and rock and whatnot, nothing like a "humanized space" or anything. ppl who go down there, usually because they have no choice, are left alone with a flashlight and a "good luck"
it is a big space, mind you. the only way in is a small vertical trapdoor of about 60*50cm maybe, that is like 2m above the cavern floor, so its a... a good jump. dont ask me how they get out again.
this house has had ppl refusing to fix water/gas leaks in the past because the workers didnt want to get down there, more than once, iirc

so, the fun part today is: the poor souls who had to get down there today, were ones who were ordered to do so, to, apparently, install fiber ("fiber" as in "internet access goes woosh"). this building already has fiber but apparently every isp wants to have their own deployment of cables to not share with anyone else or something like that, whatever
"wait, you said "the fun part", what was the fun part?"
well. they had to go trough a small hole with a 2m fall from there. with expensive and relatively big machinery (that i dont know where they rested, since its all mud down there). and they had to work down there without any light source other than, probably, their smartphone's leds.
this is not a "lets laugh at the misery of workers" thing, this is just me imagining ppl go "parkour!" in the dark with expensive machinery and finding it fun somehow, or something like that

i've always wanted to explore that cavern, but it is very inconvenient, it is usually "sealed" and nobody would trust me with the keys to that space, and tbh im pretty sure that it has to be even hard to breathe down there. im unsure if a water stream crosses said space, or if it just crosses "right under the floor" of that space, but what im sure of is that it does not have enough airflow for me to feel comfortable with.
also i think that it spans under more than one building, but as far as i have asked, nobody has ever... "considered it worth it", lets say, to use their free time to be in there, in the last 50 years at least. one would think that at least someone would try to illegally add an extra floor to their house (similar projects that didnt involve the cavern have happened), but that place is just too inhabitable i guess
