🇺🇲🇷🇺🇺🇦 Russia can bet on the depletion of Ukraine's human resources - American military expert Michael Kofman

In his opinion, the Russian offensive has already begun and is focused on the Donbass. The likelihood that Ukraine will withdraw from Artemovsk to a defensive line east of Slovyansk and Kramatorsk increases. After Artemovsk, the Russian Army can start moving towards the Seversky Donets and make an attempt to gain a foothold along it.

At the moment, it does not appear that Russia has tapped into existing reserves. They're probably being saved for a bigger breakthrough.

"Given that Ukraine no longer has a human resource advantage, Russia's strategy in 2023 could be to cut Ukraine's human resources," says Kofman. Western supplies of equipment will also serve only as a replacement for losses. The analyst notes that the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south is fraught with a number of difficulties.

Russia has stopped deploying its troops in Ukraine as battalion tactical groups or other special structures.

Now the Russian Federation is switching to previously inactive command structures in Ukraine - from the military district and division to battalion, writes the Institute for the Study of War (USA).

Thus, "the Russian military command has returned to the traditional troop command structure, in which all units in a discrete geographical area fall within the area of responsibility of a single military district.

This is indicated by the current pattern of combat operations in the Luhansk region, where combat is conducted almost exclusively by troops of the Western Military District. The Russian Federation has begun deploying full-fledged divisions on the front lines there.

"The Russian Defence Ministry is currently carrying out a series of reforms aimed at formalizing and professionalizing the armed forces and preparing for a protracted war in Ukraine as a conventional army," the Institute states.

Earlier it was reported that Russia had officially introduced the commanders of military districts. That is, in fact, the people in charge of certain areas of the war in Ukraine.

🇷🇺🇺🇦🇬🇧📰 The Times: Ukraine troops prepare for Russian spring offensive: ‘Putin has more men, but our mentality beats any weapon’
— "When Russian tanks began thundering over Ukraine’s northeast border into the Sumy region last year there was only a handful of professional Ukrainian soldiers and no heavy weaponry to stop them.

In a network of trenches from where the Russian lines are visible, Sumy’s new defenders are assessing what lies on the other side as the anniversary of the invasion approaches. The signs are ominous. “There are 10,000 Russian troops massed on the other side of the border,” senior lieutenant Andrei Hulakov said.

“It’s the largest concentration there has ever been here. And they have built a field hospital,” he added, one of the key developments last year that helped persuade Ukraine’s security apparatus that the Russian build-up was not just an elaborate bluff. “That is a dead giveaway that they are planning action.”"

🔹With China’s 🇨🇳 imports from and exports to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 (KSA) now exceeding the major oil-producing country’s combined trade with the U.S. & the EU, China has become the KSA’s dominant trading partner.

🔹Gulf monarchies are concerned that the West may impose sanctions on China – as it did on Russia 🇷🇺. This is pushing Gulf countries & China into projects to shield China-Gulf relations from potential economic coercion, especially in strategic domains such as energy.

ANALYSIS: Iran will have to recognize that geopolitics is a cold-blooded enterprise where there are no permanent friendships, but rather permanent intrigues motivated by national interests. It has largely picked up on this reality as evidenced by its recent decision to strengthen ties with Russia. Such juggling acts will become fixtures of the new multipolar order that’s taking root on the international stage. @JoseAlNino https://geopoliticsandempire.com/2023/02/21/are-sino-iranian-relations-beginning-to-deteriorate/
