It is often said that in order for society to function properly, people have to fulfill their moral obligation of helping one another, while others argue that modern culture often rewards self-serving behavior. I am of the opinion that the relentless pursuit of personal gain might lead to a self-centered society; therefore, striking a balance between self-development and contributing to the common good is essential.
In today’s highly competitive world, success often comes when one is ready to sacrifice something in return. This usually appears in the form of becoming so focused on oneself that other people’s needs or beliefs no longer seem important. I do believe that prioritizing oneself when necessary is crucial in achieving a certain level of success; however, this should not turn into exploiting others for personal benefit. While chasing greatness, individuals often face significant struggles and barriers that may force them to place greater emphasis on their own goals. That is why being slightly selfish can sometimes be beneficial. For example, many successful entrepreneurs, such as Bill Gates, devoted enormous amounts of time and energy to their careers, often at the expense of their social lives. Although it cannot be said that sacrificing relationships is absolutely necessary for success, being perceived as selfish during the early stages of ambition is not far from reality. Success, indeed, often comes with sacrifice, and being called selfish is sometimes the price people have to pay.
On the other hand, contributing to society can create a better world for everyone in the long run. If society is driven purely by self-interest, it risks losing its moral foundation. A balance between personal ambition and social responsibility can help individuals succeed both personally and socially. Since humans are naturally social creatures, helping others is likely to result in feelings of emotional fulfillment and inner satisfaction. Take doctors as an example: they sacrifice their precious time by staying on duty even at night, often skipping holidays in order to prioritize people’s health and well-being. At the end of the day, without empathy and kindness, even the most successful societies become emotionally fragmented. I believe that by encouraging and supporting others, people can build healthier relationships that foster social development in various ways. Nevertheless, sacrificing for others should not come at the expense of one’s own health or well-being. As mentioned earlier, striking a balance between personal growth and contributing to society is the most reasonable solution.
All in all, while ambition is essential for personal success, contributing to the greater good of society and being considerate of others’ needs help individuals fulfill both personal and emotional responsibilities in life.

My biggest contribution to the society is I dont speak when I am NOT educated enough on a topic, which apparently makes me part of a VERY small community.
Bcs somewhere along the way people became extremely comfortable having passionate opinions with absolutely no supporting information whatsoever

Nobody even hesitates anymore, they just hear one sentence in a podcast and immediately they start speaking like they testified this theory before a congress or sm

It’s been 13 years since I finished school, and to those of you graduating today — congratulations.
I don’t think I’m in a position to offer life wisdom, but I wanted to share something Nassim Taleb said in a commencement speech that has always resonated with me:
For I have a single definition of success: you look in the mirror every evening, and wonder if you disappoint the person you were at 18 or 20, right before the age when people start getting corrupted by life.
Let him or her be the only judge; not your reputation, not your wealth, not your standing in the community, not the decorations on your lapel. If you do not feel ashamed, you are successful.
I think that’s generally a pretty good compass for navigating the years ahead.
