Every kingdom has a Commonwealth. A righteous and benevolent king does not amass wealth for himself but for the welfare of his citizens.
This is why it is only in a kingdom we truly find commonwealth; i.e. the wealth is common to all the people. In the kingdom of God, every citizen has equal access to the resources of God’s kingdom. There are no special or preferred citizens! Access is based on citizenship, not favoritism. What differs is knowledge, stewardship, and responsibility.
“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.” Haggai 2:8
What do we see here?—ownership! God owns the resources. Humans are stewards. The question then becomes how wisely and justly those resources are managed and distributed.
