to make friends easily


When someone has a pleasant personality and is quite easy going and everyone wants to be his/her friend. They are said to make friends easily.

Example:

Declan was looking forward to going to University. He did not mind leaving home. In a few weeks, he would be having a good time. He found it easy to make friends wherever he went.

to hit it off

When two people really like each other from almost the first minute they meet we can say they hit it off immediately or they really hit it off.

Example:

John was introduced to Kevin at the party. They had a lot in common and agreed to meet for a beer the next week. Within a short period of time, they were very good friends. They hit it off from the first time they met.

The peas are identical. It is very difficult to see any difference.

When two friends are very close, like the same things, do the same things people will say:

through thick and thin

When a friend has shared all our ups and downs (positives and negatives) with us and we have shared all of his/hers we can genuinely say we have been through everything together. We have been through thick and thin. We have seen the positives and the negatives. True friendship. 

Example:

Antonio and Jaime had been friends since they were children. They went to the same school, studied at the same university and shared many other life experiences. They had been through thick and thin together.

A friend in need is a friend indeed!
English Idioms about Relationships
1️⃣ Like cat and dog 
Meaning: this refers to people who don't really get on, they're always fighting like cat and dog

Examples: I don't know what is going on there; they're fighting like cat and dog. Hopefully, it doesn't last too long.

2️⃣ LIke a house on fire 
Meaning: to enjoy each other's company from the start; to get on really well

Example: Those two, they get on like a house on fire. You can see instantly that they like each other.

3️⃣ To rub someone up the wrong way 
Meaning: to cause (someone) to be angry or annoyed, often without intending to do so

Examples: Don't rub him up the wrong way, otherwise, you'll see that he is not such a nice person. 

4️⃣ On the rocks 
Meaning: when something is not going well

Example: John’s marriage was not going well. He constantly argued with his wife. He told his friend he thought their marriage was really on the rocks.

5️⃣ To hit it off  
Meaning: to get on well with someone you meet

Example: Anthony met Miriam at the party and they talked all night. They really hit it off the first time.

6️⃣ To meet someone halfway 
Meaning: to reach an agreement with somebody by compromise

Example: We agreed to meet halfway on the price.

because often they are used synonymously.

Meaning: to wait for a short time

Example:

Just hang on for a few seconds and  I'll be with you.
Just hold on until I finish this. 

We often use them when we're talking about telephone calls. For example, if your new washing broke down and you're ringing a customer service line.

Hold on, I'll put you through to someone who can help you.

Unfortunately, these days many companies have an automated voice recognition system, and it's hard to get a real person on the other end of the line.
