💡In 2010, a bug resulted in the unintentional generation of 184 billion BTC (way above its intended maximum total supply of 21 million).

Referred to as the "value overflow incident," this bug caused a significant number of coins to be generated in August 2010. Within five hours of its discovery, Satoshi (or a different developer) rectified the issue by patching the Bitcoin client and releasing version 0.3.10, which disregarded the surplus coins. With the majority of miners and nodes adopting this updated client, the error and its repercussions were effectively circumvented, and the discrepancy was removed from the blockchain.
