Huawei ICT Academy Awareness Session at Ambo University

Ambo University ICT Directorate has successfully hosted an engaging awareness and orientation session on the Huawei ICT Academy, Huawei ICT Competition 2025-2026 Northern Africa, and Seeds for the Future Program.
In the opening speech Dr. Naol Bakala, Director of the ICT Directorate at Ambo University, stressed the importance of the Huawei ICT Certification Program in equipping students with internationally recognized qualifications that enhance employability and global competitiveness. He also extended appreciation for Huawei’s commitment to developing digital talent and strengthening collaboration with Ethiopian Universities.

Mr. Tamire Dawud, ICT Ecosystem Development Manager at Huawei Technologies Ethiopia PLC, delivered an insightful presentation highlighting on Huawei’s global talent development initiatives and the opportunities they bring to Ethiopian universities. He further introduced the Huawei Seeds for the Future program, which provides top-performing students with advanced ICT training, international exposure, and cross-cultural learning experiences. In his final say, Mr. Tamire announced the registration for the 10th Huawei ICT competition is now open, inviting students to participate and demonstrate their ICT skills on national and global stages.
Generally, the collaboration marks another milestone in empowering Ambo University students with the skills and certifications needed to thrive in the digital era.

Ethiopia Telecom is conducting a financial literacy campaign at Ambo University’s main campus, around Seba Dereja.

The campaign focuses on telecom services related to realizing Digital Ethiopia. The main areas of the campaign include:

1. Usage of financial services through Telebirr, including cash-in and cash-out services, as well as peer-to-peer (P2P) cash transfers.
2. Guidance on how to use telecom services, including student packages, airtime top-up, and more.

🍄 Scientists Created a "Computer" Based on Mushrooms

Researchers from Ohio State University have turned shiitake mushrooms into memristors—memory-based electrical components that mimic the function of synapses.

The researchers grew the mushrooms, then carefully dried them to preserve their structure. Next, the mushrooms were connected to electronic circuits and exposed to signals of varying strength and frequency.

The conductive structure of the mushrooms changed in response to the impulses passing through them. This adaptability allows for the creation of trainable neural networks: the "mushroom memristor" remembers the signal that passed through it, much like a synapse in the brain.

The mushroom-based memory elements could switch between states up to 5,850 times per second with approximately 90% accuracy.

Project: Campus Feedback Portal

Hey Y'all
I’m super excited to share that Tech Titans, organized under the Ambo University Woliso Campus Developers Team, has taken on a big challenge — developing a Campus Feedback Portal for our university.
This platform will make it easier for students to «submit complaints, give feedback, or share appreciation» about campus services all directly from their phones. No more going from office to office; just open the portal, send your feedback, and get quick responses! 📱
In our team, I’m working on the frontend UI and graphics design with my fresh friends , while two amazing 3rd-year Computer Science students are handling the backend development. It’s been a tough but exciting journey for us beginners, and we’ve learned a lot together!
We’re also competing with six other teams under the developers program, and this project is our entry into the competition« i think we must win». 🏆
We’re planning to *finish the project this week*, and I just want to thank my energetic and passionate teammates for their hard work and dedication. Proud to be part of Tech Titans! abet sacks gin😂

But due to one simple issue — our team leader’s PC didn’t have Linux installed — we couldn’t run the slider needed for our wall presentation. And yes… that small technical barrier cost us the competition.

But Tech Titans don’t stop. We upgrade, innovate, and come back harder. 🔥

Over the next two weeks, we’re adding powerful new features to our Student Feedback Portal:

✨ Faster student–to–admin communication
✨ A digital solution to replace the exhausting “go office to office” hierarchy
✨ Cleaner UI, stronger backend, and improved user flow
