Tech-Related Information π©βπ»
The first and second versions of the AASTU Student's App were built in Java/Android SDKπ©βπ» during 2021-22.
This year, we migrated everything to Flutterπ©βπ» for better efficiency and multi-OS support. The app is built on Flutter v3.24.3 and for telegram mini web app we run on Flutter 3.27.1 (iOS browser scroll fix) and hosted on Firebase. However, we developed a separate backend for email confirmation, user management, and other functionalities. This backend is built with Node.js.π©βπ»
For the UI design, we used FlutterFlow, which allowed us to design the interface easily and generate Flutter code. This tool helped us create this beautiful UI in just 3-4 days, though FlutterFlow is a paid software.
The project is entirely open-source under the GPL-3.0 license, which requires copyleft. This means any derivative work you build must also be open-source.

We understand that most developers are not familiar with FlutterFlow, so soon, we will convert all components into pure Flutter widgets for easier accessibility.

After being inspired by AASTUβs transformative AASTU STUDENTS app during my time there, I made a custom-built app for Jimma Institute of Technology students!
Study AI π€. Powered by Googleβs Gemini and ML Kit, it lets you:
- πΈ Snap-to-Study: Generate practice questions from textbook images, PDF screenshots, or handwritten notes.
- π§ AI Exam Assistant: Upload exam questions or problem sets for guided solutions.
- π‘ Smart Tutoring: Get instant explanations for complex topics.
Whatβs Next?
While the current build focuses on Study AI and streamlined UI/UX, Iβm actively working to integrate more features
π Beta Testers Needed! Jimma/JIT studentsβDM me to join the testing phase!
π Feedback Welcome: What features would *you* want in a university app?
This is just the beginning. Letβs build something incredible for JIT together! π»β¨

FYI: I have renamed this channel from "INNOVATE AASTU" to "CodeIT Lab."
In 2021, we built our first project at AASTU β the AASTU Students App. We played a role in creating a culture of building projects on campus, and we witnessed how AASTU became a hive of student-led innovation and clubs across Ethiopia.
Now, as Iβm leaving the campus, Iβve decided to rename this channel.
Back in 2018 (7 years ago!), I had a group and channel called "Code It - Ethiopia" (@codeitethiopia) β that was when I first started learning HTML. :)
I'm now bringing that name back. The new theme of this channel will focus on:
- Building in public
- Sharing remote job experiences
- Reviewing AI tools
Weβll do our best to make this more than just another tech channel.π

Today, π± Slack changed my status, reminding me that itβs my 1-year anniversary since starting at my current company!
If you are just beginning remote work, or planning to, hereβs a quick summary of what Iβve learned over the past year:
1. Learn Version Control (Deeply):
Learn as much as you canβnot just
2. Make a Strong First Impression:
Your first few months are critical. Show your value early, Habibi you will be the boss later, company don't want you to leave.
3. Learn to Debug like Pro:
Debugging, reverse engineering, finding solutions with AI prompting, and navigating technical resources are essential skills. It is most powerful tools you have.
4. Set Up a Productive Workspace:
Invest as much as you can afford in a reliable internet connection, a comfortable chair, and noise-canceling headphones. Your environment shapes your outputβkeep it distraction-free. It even add a value to you joining meetings with video on!
5. Be Flexible
In todayβs AI-driven world, that tech stack you love doesn't matter. I started with FlutterFlow (which is barely known in Ethiopia), moved to backend development, and later focused on DevOps and deployments. Iβve worked to 4 projects, wearing different hats for each one, Bro Follow the market.

git add .

Focus on advanced version control practices and communication skills: pull requests (PRs), issues, merges, GitHub Actions, documentation, and more.2. Make a Strong First Impression:
