Fallacies

ብዙ ጊዜ ከሰዎች ጋር ስናወራ especially ስንከራከር ወይም debate ስናደርግ ሰውየው ስሜት የማይሰጥ ንግግር ካደረገ ወይም የሆነ ልክ ያልሆነ ነገር እንዳለ ከተሰማን እነዚህን ነገሮች 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 consider ማድረግ ይበጃል።

Fallacies are misleading or unsound arguments that can be deceptive or result in poor reasoning. They often pop up in everyday discussions, debates, and persuasive writing. There are many types of fallacies, but here are some of the major ones, categorized broadly:

Informal Fallacies
These are more about content errors—the reasoning may seem logical on the surface but breaks down under scrutiny.

#### A. Fallacies of Relevance
These involve using information that is irrelevant to the argument at hand.

ምሳሌ

ኢትዮጵያ እኮ ከዓለም ሀገራት በሙሉ በአምላክ የተመረጠች ናት ይልሃል
ለምን?? ስትለው
በ7ተኛው መቶ ክፍለ ዘመን የአክሱም መንግስት ገናና ነበር ይልሃል

ይሄ ከምታወሩት Argument ጋር ፈጽሞ የማይገናኝ ነው!! መረጃው አንተ ስለሌህ ብቻ ሊያጭበረብርህ እየሞከረ ነው Fallacy of relevance ይባላል።

- Ad Hominem: Attacking the person making the argument rather than the argument itself.

አንተ ስለ ትምህርት ጥቅም እያስረዳኸው ነው
እሱ:- አውቅሃለው እኮ ስትዞር ነው የምትውለው። ይልሃል ከዋናው ሀሳብ ማለትም ከትምህርት ጥቅም ይልቅ ያንተን ጠባይ ይተቻል Ad hominem ይባላል።

- Appeal to Ignorance: Claiming something is true because it hasn’t been proven false (or vice versa).

ምድር ክብ/ ጠፍጣፋ ነች ይልሃል
ለምን?? ስትለው
ክብ/ጠፍጣፋ ስለሆነች ይልሃል። ሐሰትነቱ ስላልተረጋገጠ እውነት ነው። ወይም እውነትነቱ ስላልተረጋገጠ ሐሰት ነው የሚል ከሆነ Appeal to ignorance ይባላል።

- Red Herring: Introducing an irrelevant topic to divert attention away from the original issue.

ስለ አንድ ርዕስ እየተወያያችሁ እንደተሸነፈ ሲረዳ ሌላ ርእስ ጣልቃ ካስገባ he is red herring

- Appeal to Emotion: Manipulating an emotional response instead of presenting a valid argument.

ለምን ማገጥሽብኝ?? ስትላት
እወድኻለው እኮ ብላ ስቅስቅ ብላ ካለቀሰች እመነኝ she is making you appeal to her emotion

#### B. Fallacies of Ambiguity
These arise from unclear or ambiguous wording.

- Equivocation: Using a word in different senses throughout an argument, misleading the conclusion.

በብዛት በሁለት ቋንቋዎች መሃል ወይም በትልልቅ አጀንዳዎች ውስጥ የሚፈጠር የቃላት አረዳድ መለያየት ነው። አንዱ ራሱን ቃል በሌላ ሲረዳው ሌላው ደግሞ በሌላ ይረዳዋል።

- Amphiboly: Ambiguity that arises from the grammatical construction of a sentence.

#### C. Fallacies of Presumption
These imply or assume things that are not necessarily true.

- Begging the Question (Circular Reasoning): The argument's premises assume the truth of the conclusion instead of supporting it.

ሰፈርህ የት ነው?? ስትለው
እነ ከበደ ሰፈር ይልሃል
የነከበደ ሰፈር የት ነው?? ስትለው እኛ ሰፈር ይልሃል። እንዲህ እያዟዟረህ ከዋለ circular reasoning ይባላል።

- False Dilemma (Either-Or Fallacy): Presenting two options as the only possibilities when more exist.

ወይ እኔን ወይ እናትህን ምረጥ ብሎ ፋዘርህ ሲያስጨንቅህ።
ሁለቱንም መምረጥ መብትህ ሆኖ ሳለ🤷‍♂

- Hasty Generalization: Making a generalized claim based on insufficient or unrepresentative evidence.

በተወሰኑ ሰዎች ጥፋት በቡድን መፈረጅ ( የዚህ ሰፈር ሰው ምቀኛ ነው....አይነት ነገሮች)

- Slippery Slope: Arguing that a small first step will lead to a significant and undesirable effect without evidence to support the claim.

ሁልጊዜ ትምህርት ቤት ከመጣህ ጎበዝ ተማሪ ትሆናለህ። ካለህ slippery slope ውስጥ ነው

- Post Hoc (False Cause): Assuming that because one event followed another, it was also caused by it.

ጠላትህ ቢጎዳ: እኔን ስለተቃወመ ነው ምናምን ካልክ you are making a false cause!!

These are just a few of the many fallacies that can occur in arguments. Being aware of these can help in analyzing and constructing more sound arguments, as well as in recognizing flawed reasoning when it arises in conversation.
