"Shipping AI" Blueprint by Biniyam Daniel
Building AI in Ethiopia isn't about having the most GPUsβit's about the "Bushcraft" mindset: building what you need with what you have.
1. The "Don't Reinvent the Wheel" Rule π₯§
Stop trying to build the universe to bake a pie. 80% of use cases are covered by existing LLMs. Use them.
If you can prompt it, do it. Don't be afraid to be a "wrapper"βas long as you find Product-Market Fit.
2. Prompting vs. RAG vs. Fine-tuning π οΈ
Prompting: Best for low data & simple tasks.
RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation): Best for moderate data and external knowledge.
Fine-tuning: Use ONLY when data is massive (millions of records) or the domain is highly specific.
3. The $100k GPU Hack πΈ
You don't need a massive budget to start. Biniyam suggests:
Google Colab & Kaggle: For free weekly GPU hours.
Nvidia Inception Program: Apply for up to $100,000 in GPU grants.
4. The "Hair on Fire" Problem π₯
Don't build "nice-to-have" ideas. Look for the person whose "hair is on fire"βthey are the ones who will pay for your slightly better solution.
The Takeaway: π‘ Stop looking for investors before you have a product. Use open-source, use free tiers, and just ship it.

Three months ago I noticed something.
Ethiopian AI startups were shipping real products. Real APIs. Real intelligence.
But Flutter devs? We were stuck reading raw docs, wiring endpoints, fixing edge cases alone.
So I built a Flutter SDK for Hasab AI.
Didnβt expect much.
People loved it.
That moment told me something important
This ecosystem doesnβt lack talent.
It lacks bridges.
So I kept going.
Today, Iβm releasing Addis AI Flutter SDK.
Same mission. Cleaner execution. Better DX.
Flutter devs shouldnβt struggle to use local AI.
It should feel native. Simple. Obvious.

Morning Thought from Class
Today my lecturer said something simple but powerful: βAdd 1 value to your life every day.β
We all have visions, dreams, things we want to achieve. The key? Small daily steps.
Learn something new about your career, your skills, or even yourself β just one thing each day. Over time, it turns into something massive.
Itβs not about rushing; itβs about growing a little every day.
Stay Strongπͺ
