Transfer Protcol Vs API design Style

1. Api design styles(REST, GraphQL etc....)
Describe the architectural pattern - how two programs logically communicate.

E.g:
Request–Response design new? 👉 REST, SOAP
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) design new? 👉 gRPC, classic RPC

2. Transfer Protocols(Http, ftp, SMTP,.. Etc)
Define the actual wire-level communication between two programs in network - the rules, formats, and status codes

E.g:
HTTP 👉 request/response with methods (GET, POST) and status codes (200 OK, 404 Not Found)
It is like when one program say 200 OK, the other program understood like it works.

So REST is one of API design style, HTTP is one of a transfer protocol.
REST defines how APIs work generally , HTTP defines how data is sent actuality so two programs communicate - just like a language

And yeah, MCP is a new protocol for AI agents to use external tools. It standardizes how AI connects to apps and services instead of building custom integrations for each one.
E.g. connecting an agent to Gmail.
