A few decades ago, the terms "MLM" or "Direct Sales" were like a taboo.

One would not venture into this profession without losing at least 90% of their friends, almost immediately; no thanks to the aggressive and hunting approach that was hailed by many top leaders in the industry, and blind following by the newbies.

But things have evolved, and social media has shaped the conversation we have in the market. Today, network marketing is proven to be growing rapidly and strong through all previous economic crisis. Yet, I'm dumbfounded to see distributors of today still behaving like the hunters of yester-years.

Network marketing. Two words. Yet, there are still distributors who do neither networking, nor marketing. All they do is hunting, hunting, and more hunting. It would be a shame to call themselves network marketer, and I think it's more appropriate to call themselves city hunters instead!

Look, the onus is on us to treat ourselves as business owners, and to treat our network marketing business as a real business; if we want others to treat us and our business as such! At some point, you've got to un-learn what your uplines had taught you, and re-learn what's relevant in the market right now.

Always be upgrading.

They only cheer for you when what you do fits their reasonable reality, but you don’t live in their “reality”.

3 Main Things I've Learnt About Pivoting and Shifting

1️⃣ Aligned Intention + Clarity = Long-term Success
Having the right intention is just the first step. We must have aligned intention where our thoughts, plans, actions and words are aligned to our main goals. Having clarity of how we play our game and where are we heading as we progress is crucial.

2️⃣ Authenticity = My Identity is driven by my habits and beliefs
Am I living the principles of what I'm showing to the community I'm serving? Start questioning my habits & beliefs and check if they're aligned with my identity, both online and in-person.

3️⃣ AHA Moments? Clarity doesn't always come in the form of AHA moments
It can come in the form of total breakdown when the crying leads to healing. Moments are shifting constantly and our circumstances are changing rapidly. Sometimes, we would be so overwhelmed with the on-going crushing waves. And sometimes, we find clarity when all the noises around us are removed, when we reconnect with what truly matters to us at the core of it.

🎢 It's been a roller-coaster ride since 2020, and into 2021. It forces us to question ourselves at every level of our beliefs and to challenge our own willingness to be wrong and let go.

My student asked during one of our weekly coachings. Her hubby thinks she should stop doing her #MLM business, but she thinks he’s not being understanding as she’s doing it for the family!

🧘🏻‍♀️ “Take a deep breath,” I told her. “You started this with a big WHY—to earn some extra income and help him with some household expenses.”

👂🏼 Listen to the intention behind the message—what are the main concerns?

👄 Communicate calmly, what is the specific outcome you’re striving for?

👀 Look for a win-win middle-point. Check with your company if there’s an option to maintain your distributorship without purchasing products for a few months.

🤝 Use the magic phrase “If I... would you?” to get alignment: “If I don’t spend money on the products until I earn some income, and I’ll learn my way how to go about it; would you support me by giving me the space to attend trainings, coaching and meetings?”

⚠️ The issue is almost always not about the business or products, but lack of clear communication.

Which type of people in MLM have you encountered the most?
