Koreys madaniyatiga qisqacha ekskurs
Tanishing, bu Qirol Sejong. U 1418-1450 yillarda Choson (hozirgi Koreya) davlatini boshqargan. O'zimizda ham u davrda o'zbek tilidan ko'ra forsiy tilga afzallik berilgani singari, Chosonda ham aristokratlar xitoy tilida so'zlashgan. Sejong buyukligining sababi bu aholi uchun yagona til va alifboga asos solgani hisoblanadi. U boshchiligida "aqlli inson 1 kunda, nodon esa 2 kunda o'rgana oladigan" til 1443-yilda ommaga taqdim etildi. Bu alifbo "Hangil" (한글) deb nom oldi, va har yili aynan 9-oktabr kuni bu kunni davlat bayrami sifatida nishonlab kelishadi.

📚Friend of mine, Abdurashid, graduate student at UChicago, has recently started a social project called "read and return books" in Tashkent. You can share unused books at home, or lend one for 2-3 weeks, so it's a win-win situation for everyone involved. Contribution to the project is voluntary, just contact Dilshoda (@hankersore) for any inquiries.

🇰🇷What do Koreans ask you when they meet for the first time? Age? Country? Occupation?
Hell, no. Your MBTI🫠
So, what is it? Basically, kinda horoscope but there are 16 types of personality according to 16personalities.com and once you take that test, it will show your strengths and weaknesses, etc. During the dating, job application or regular class at uni they can ask your MBTI and they give it such importance... Mine is ENFJ, let me know yours in the comments💬

"Korean" stress
Recently, we had research from one of the classes on the topic "Stress among high school students".
Before coming here, I used to think of stress as a joke, but, after living here for more than a year, I can surely say that I was wrong. Suicide is the main reason for deaths in Korea, and the stress from the very childhood till the work among Koreans is the main reason for it.
Competitive society pushes parents to pressure their children, enormous stress is put on students and workers too. We interviewed some university and high school students and received a few crucial points I wanted to share with you.

1) well-intentioned expectations by parents lead to the child's closeness. They are used to spend 4-6 hours at academies after regular classes because of prioritizing academics over mental health...
2) in South Korea’s academic system, students aren't just competing with themselves; they are competing with their closest friends. Constant ranking pushes students to see their peers as rivals, increasing isolation at the same time...
3) simple break can solve those issues to some extent, which can help students to "recharge" and reduce the mental pressure. For example, creating special quiet spaces in schools is one of the options.

Future has arrived
As the midterms are approaching, I have hundreds of pages and slides to review. Note-taking is certainly effective but with this volume of information, it would take weeks for digestion.
Here's when AI named NotebookLM comes to help. By just uploading your material it breaks down the content into easy-to-understand parts and even creates 10 minute long podcast. Saved my crucial time and eased the process effectively, tavsuyu!

Suneung Exam: The Day Korea Stops
Imagine an entire country holding its breath for a single day. Streets are quieter, flights are rescheduled, and even police officers become chauffeurs. This is not a scene from a movie; it’s the reality of Suneung (수능), Korea’s College Scholastic Ability Test, the most crucial exam for high school seniors.
Suneung isn’t just an exam; it’s a national event. This year it's held on November 16th, it determines which universities students can enter. Not talking about unreal competition level, this test is so significant that the entire nation adjusts its daily routine. Rush hour is extended, which allows students to reach their test centers without delays. If someone is running late, police patrol cars step in to get them there on time. During the English listening section, even airplanes are grounded or delay the flights between 12:40 to 13:30
Preparation for Suneung begins months, even years, before the actual day. Parents play a big role, from finding the best commuting routes to performing traditional rituals for good luck, such as visiting temples or churches. For the students, the pressure is enormous, as they face nearly 8 hours of testing that will define their future opportunities.
The night before the exam, students finally learn their assigned test center. On the big day, juniors gather at school gates to cheer on seniors with banners, snacks, and heartfelt wishes of "Fighting!" (화이팅)
Suneung reflects Korea's deep cultural value for education, discipline, and community support. Should it be implemented in Uzbekistan also? Let me know in the comments 💭

Karantin payti online pul topishga juda qiziqardim. Freelance'da oldingi tajriba bo'lmagan bo'lsa ham, oson pulga o'chlik katta bo'lgan ;)
Oyimga shunaqa-shunaqa ish qilsam shuncha pul berarkan deb soddalarcha ishonib aytib bergan paytlarimda aytgan bir gaplari hali ham esimda. "Yo'q pulni hisoblab vaqtingni sarflama, qachonki halol ishlab qo'lingga tushsagina hisob" deganlar. Haligacha biror ish yo internship qidirayotganda moddiy manfaatdan ko'ra man nima value olaman va berolaman degan fikr birinchi o'rinda

Eating culture
🇰🇷The difference between eating culture among us and Koreans is very special.
🐷The first thing to notice is in Korean cuisine pork is added to almost everything because it is the cheapest alternative to beef. In the past, they used to eat beef only in special moments, kind of a very divine thing.
🍗Next, they really, really love chicken. Literally, tons of chicken-serving cafés (shiktang) available wherever you go. They even have a snack, which is basically a mix of chicken and beer!🥹
🥢When you come to those shiktangs, side dishes like kimchi, marinated radish, soybean sprouts are provided as part of the service (see the photo)
📌For the last one let me go with an example. Imagine, 4 of "our" people come to the cafe, order 4 different meals, one for each. But Koreans, share these 4 meals with each other, so everyone can have a try. This part of culture is linked to poverty during Japanese occupation (1910-1945) and Korean war (1950-1953)

–Who is the fastest man on Earth?
–Usain Bolt
–Who is the second fastest guy?
...
Yohan Blake, another Jamaican sprinter was slower by only 0.11 seconds! But who knows him as much as Bolt? Nobody.
This is an example of a "compound effect". Small, but consistent changes can bring enormous results over time. Just the matter of priorities.
