این دو اسم معمولا غیر قابل شمارش هستند. وقتی قابل شمارش می شوند که در مورد نوع خاصی از میوه یا غداصحبت کنیم. لازم به ذکر است که جمع کلمه fruit هم fruit و هم fruits می باشد.
مثال:
I eat a lot of fruit every day.
(غیرقابل شمارش)

I love summer fruits.
(قابل شمارش)(نوع خاصی میوه- میوه های تابستانی)

He eats lots of food.
(غیرقابل شمارش)

He loves fatty foods.
(قابل شمارش - نوع خاصی غذا - غذاهای چرب)

به عنوان موجود زنده قابل شمارش است و اگر از یک گونه باشد جمع آن fish است و اگر از گونه های مختلف باشد جمع آن fishes.
