Norway is taking the world down a slippery slope, opening up an area the size of Italy for deep-sea mining. This is the colonisation of the new frontier. Most species there are unknown to mankind. Mining there may have dire impacts on our planetary systems. We need a moratorium.

Despite the momentous International Court of Justice ruling that Israel is plausibly accused of genocide in #Gaza, our The Left request moved by Manu Pineda to add a debate on it voted down by a majority of MEPs.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. And "Israel has a right to defend itself."

My mic was cut in the debate this evening for pointing out that four months into an EU-backed genocide, the move is on to change the subject to ANYTHING but #Gaza. Out comes "Russiagate" once again. MEPs too captivated by gossip & tossing around smears to address the mass murder they're complicit in. Disgraceful.

Israel is now bombing a million civilians trapped in #Rafah, the last place of refuge in #Gaza. It was clear four months ago that Israel's end game was the permanent destruction of the Gaza Strip and its people.

There must be an accounting in the West for how this has been supported and enabled, but that is for the future.

A million defenceless and starving people with nowhere to go are facing Israel's murderous onslaught. It is already too late for so much of Gaza, and for so many lives that are never coming back, but it is not too late to STOP THE KILLING and to save lives.

#Ireland must call on @CharlesMichel to convene an emergency conference of the EU Council. EU countries must demand an immediate, unconditional and permanent #ceasefireNOW and be prepared to back it up with suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, a ban on all arms exports to Israel from EU countries, and further measures.. Israel must be restrained. Every further delay is unacceptable.

Military emissions account for more than the greenhouse emissions of aviation and shipping combined. If global militaries were a country, they'd be the 4th largest emitter. And yet military is excluded from climate targets and reporting. Our planet needs peace and demilitarisation.

"We need dissenters more than ever to stand up and speak truth to power. And speak truth to the horrible consensus that is being forced upon us that we must have continuous wars. That it is inevitable. And that the world is divided into them and us. I'll have nothing to do with that consensus."

Women and children in #Gaza make up 70% of Israel's victims. Two mothers are killed every hour. Women go through childbirth in Gaza without anaesthesia, without doctors, midwives, nurses. Tens of thousands of babies have no mother to hold them.

Ahead of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, war and its effect on women should be a priority. But for the cruise missile feminists in European politics there is no fellow feeling. That's not feminism; it's an abomination.

Rather than supporting minority communities, Europe is now seeing different bigotries reinforcing each other. Islamophobic "war on terror" tropes are being used to dehumanise victims of Israeli terror, while critics of Israel are being repressed with false and cynical accusations of antisemitism. European complicity in Israeli genocide is the cause. The sooner we cut Israel loose the better for the struggle against racism.
