Solidarity with Susan Sarandon, a living legend of American film, now dropped by United Talent Agency for speaking up powerfully for Palestinians. As she said: "It is time for an open heart. It is time to be strong. And it's time that Palestine be free." Shame on United Talent.

Eurodiputats escandalitzats per l’estat de dret a ES, no per la brutalitat policial ni espionatge.. sinó l’amnistia! Són conscients del ridícul?

MEPs up in arms on rule of law in Spain, not over police spying or brutality.. but amnesty for Catalans!! Any idea how bad this looks?
Yesterday the European Parliament voted for these dangerous and frightening proposals for changes to the EU Treaties (in boldface text) calling for the establishment of a "Defence Union," involving "military units, including a permanent rapid deployment capacity, under the operational command of the Union," to "defend Member States," against "hybrid threats and warfare, energy blackmail, cyberthreats, disinformation campaigns and economic coercion by third countries." Few reports reached Ireland about it, but this is where the EU is going.
On the very same day the Government announced it will abolish the #TripleLock, which is the requirement for a UN mandate for any deployment of Irish troops. In a world that is increasingly seeing conflict among great powers, a UN mandate - the way we have always deployed our peacekeepers - is not good enough for the government anymore. They want to be able to deploy our defence forces on missions that would be vetoed in the UN Security Council. What kind of missions are those?
Despite the usual insincere guff about how the Government is "not changing the policy of military neutrality," is very clear Micheál Martin is on a warpath and intends to do as much damage as he can to Irish neutrality before he is kicked out. All to suck up to the Western leaders at the precise time the mask has come off. Everyone has seen the Western countries throw international law and human rights out the window and "stand with Israel" while the IDF has spent a month and a half pitilessly reducing Gaza into rubble from the air and filling the streets with children's blood. These, Israel's friends and allies, are the countries our government regards as "like-minded partners." Irish people have been heard around the world as a rare European voice speaking up for Palestine, but it is with these so-called "democracies" - who cannot even call for a ceasefire in Gaza - that the Government want us deploying our defence forces with.
Well they are going to have a fight on their hands, because we're not buying it and we're not paying for it. No to war, no to EU militarism, no to Israeli terrorism.

No surprise at all most spyware comes from Israel, the global nerve centre of repressive technology, tested in the "Palestine laboratory."

The Parliament's position on it should be: No sale of it. No use of it. Full stop. The end. It's not abuse that's the problem. It's use.

It is hypocritical to mark International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women without calling for a #CeasefireNOW in #Gaza. Thousands of Gazan women have been murdered by Israel. Hundreds of thousands displaced, tens of thousands of them pregnant. Register and recognise the violence of this situation. #FreeAhedTamimi

The EU's humanitarian aid must improve. We see that in reports of Commission blocking aid to Palestinine at a time of greatest need and in the horrendous plight of people in #Afghanistan, victims of war and international banditry by the US and its lawless allies, and who have now been forgotten.
Thousands of children have been killed, maimed, injured or arrested by Israeli forces.

Two Palestinian boys have been shot dead by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank.

More than 6,000 children have been killed in Gaza – not counting those still missing or buried under the rubble.

Why have so many Palestinian children been killed by Israel? https://www.aljazeera.com/program/inside-story/2023/11/30/why-have-so-many-palestinian-children-been-killed-by-israel

Many will be watching the news about #COP28 and wondering what's the actual point of it. Year on year we fail to act. COP isn't working. And the main reason is the Global North has failed in its responsibility towards those areas of the world most affected by climate change.
The Government is talking out of both sides of its mouth on EU's child sexual abuse regulation. I and other MEPs on the LIBE European Parliament Justice committee have written to @lawlessj Chair of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice about the Government's shocking support for #chatcontrol mass surveillance plans.

Young researchers are increasingly precarious, facing huge difficulties getting permanent academic posts. This has an impact on academic freedom. All a consequence of a neoliberal attack on higher education, to make it serve business interests rather than the common good.

Last week I presented Prime Minister Denkov with the Black Book of Pushbacks, 1,000s of pages of testimony of violence, abuse & torture on EU external borders. #Bulgaria must not be forced by the Commission to be the EU's brutal military border guards. https://left.eu/issues/publications/black-book-of-pushbacks-2022/

If we call everything we like a carbon removal and give it an EU certificate of approval we end up with a junk certification process. We end up with a system that promotes greenwashing instead of stopping it. We might be able to fool ourselves, but we can't cheat the climate.
