My theory. 1% chance it’s real. But hear me out!

Abel is Kinger. Ribbit is Kinger. Queenie is Kinger. And Caine — is Kinger.

They are all Kinger. As the only developer, he created the Circus to get away from his loneliness and fear of death. His mind was split into many instances — colleagues, loving wife and daughter, enthusiastic Abel and powerful, yet crazy, Caine. All representing parts of his own personality.

Things were smooth at first, but not that great, and eventually he thought:

— What if we brought another human here? But who would agree?

So he went to the hospital and found a person after a car crash. A girl in a deep coma. Doctors were skeptical, so Kinger decided it was worth the risk to connect her brain to the virtual reality.

Her real name — we don’t know. But we know her as Pomni.

She appeared in the Circus gradually; her mind was split as well. Part of her is a nice, ordinary girl. Part of her is sad, because she works as a clerk — she is a failed artist. Part of her has family issues, and part of her is puzzled about her gender and sexuality. And Jax — is the part of her that escapes herself. And wants to be a total bitch.

The processing power of the Circus is not endless. So as Kinger lost parts of his former mind, becoming abstracted, new instances of Pomni appeared.

After all, she appeared right when Kaufmo abstracted. And Kinger bears all the guilt. Losing himself, he sees only one chance — Pomni.

That explains why no one from the main cast has abstracted yet. Pomni still has a chance — to face her issues, bring all parts of herself together as friends, and finally accept who she is. This is the sole purpose of the Circus — the one that Kinger failed to achieve for himself.

This is why there is such a deep Pomni–Kinger connection. This is why she asks him to make the right choice — the Blue or the Red button. Stay or Leave. Until it’s too late. Until Kinger is abstracted, and all that’s left of him — is a damaged, uncontrollable Caine.
