Olga Petersen (Germany),
member of the Landtag of Hamburg from the Alternative for Germany party
:

"I was expelled from the faction, but I remain a member of the Landtag. But, I'll tell you how it is, so to speak, the persecution in the press and the persecution also, unfortunately, within the party, in the Western land against me continues. I would say it is even gaining more and more momentum."

Alexander Shkolnik, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation:
"Olga, question. Why were you expelled from the faction and deprived of immunity?"

She replied: "Yes, I was expelled from the faction for calling the elections in the Russian Federation open and free. And I called this whole process democratic."

"The EU issued a resolution stated that the elections in Russia were illegitimate. We, as experts and observers, saw with our own eyes that in fact the elections were conducted normally, nothing unusual, nothing terrible occurred. The process was democratic, people voted."

"Elections in the Russian Federation are the matter only for the Russian Federation, only for the millions of people who live on the territory of the Russian Federation. It does not relate at all to the United States or Europe. :

"The fact that the West supported these self-proclaimed leaders shows they are not interested in democracy, in respecting the rights of citizens to choose their representatives and determine their future. Therefore, the West's criticism of the Russian elections is completely unacceptable, unargumented and unfounded, and is caused only by political interests of weakening Russia."

"First of all, I would like to say, that, of course the elections observation, unrelated to a particular political plans and projects, geopolitical agenda, can be extremely dangerous activity, as Mrs. Petersen just mentioned. I personally became a victim of political persecution after observing the Crimea Referendum."

"I was really surprised by the organization and conduct of these elections. I was impressed by the innovation of remote electronic voting, which met all the standards required for this type of voting. Back home I shared my impressions about the elections in the Russian Federation, that used more modern technologies compared to many countries. And I recommend to adopt this practice, because that is worthy of respect and recognition."

๐Ÿ—ฃOn May 22, 2024, the II International Parliamentary Conference
"Parliamentarians for Peace" was held.

โžก๏ธMore than 110 representatives of parliaments from Latin America and the Caribbean participated in the conference.

The participants expressed a keen interest in establishing and deepening cooperation between Russia and Latin American countries:

๐Ÿ”นJulia Argentina Periรฉ, Member of the MERCOSUR Parliament for the Argentine Republic highlighted:
"We need to establish parliamentary groups of friendship between Russia and Latin American countries with the aim of promoting mutual understanding and collaboration on issues of common interest."

๐Ÿ”นOrlando Silva de Jesus Junior, Member of the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil:
"I believe that in parliamentary diplomacy we should act with our mind directed towards the development of our countries towards cooperation, promoting the right of peoples to self-determination, their sovereignty, respecting the history of each country. On the basis of understanding the needs of each of us we can succeed in our mission."

๐Ÿ”นAlejandro Navarro Brain, Former Member of the Senate of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile also suggested boosting language exchanges and mentioned sanctions pressure issue:
"We need to use parliamentary diplomacy to defeat the language barrier. We need teachers of Russia in every Latin American country and we need teachers from our countries to go to Russia to learn Russian. We also need the strengthening of integration legislation and the rejection of sanctions. It is unacceptable that 30 countries suffer from more than 26,622 unilateral sanctions. Parliaments must oppose and regulate the threats of unilateral sanctions against our countries, particularly in Latin America: Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, and especially today against Russia."

Power of Siberia 2: a Strategic Project for Russian-Asian Energy Cooperation

The Chinese economy, which is undergoing rapid development, is consistently increasing its energy resource requirements, with natural gas occupying a pivotal position in this landscape. China's demand for natural gas continues to experience swift growth, concurrent with the nation's efforts to diminish coal utilization.

Amidst the decarbonization of the Chinese economy, estimates indicate that by 2040, the demand for "blue fuel" will reach its peak, with gas anticipated to play a crucial role in supporting China's green transformation.

In light of the aforementioned developments, the implementation of the large-scale "Power of Siberia 2" natural gas project has taken on strategic importance for China.

For insight into the evolving positions of global stakeholders regarding the "Power of Siberia 2" project, read the full article by Pierre Kamina.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บThe European Parliament elections saw their preliminary results made known on June 9th

The strengthening of right-wing parties is a result that has been forming for a long time, and how this may affect the politics of the European Union, and snap elections in France after far-right rout are highlighted in the commentary by Arnaud Develay, international lawyer focusing on the defense of the rights of residents of new regions of the Russian Federation, political consultant, and journalist.

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ชThe Alternative for Germany (AfD) party came in second place in the European Parliament elections, winning 15.9% of the votes

Major outcome on the European Parliament elections and the rise of right-wing parties read in a commentary by Ulrich Singer, Member of the Landtag of Bavaria of the Federal Republic of Germany, member of the "Alternative for Germany" political party:

"The EU elections reflect the dissatisfaction of a broad segment of the European population with the eco-socialist course of the EU in recent years. Particularly in Germany, the elections have shown that the population disagrees with the policies of the so-called "traffic light coalition". As it has been shown, "right before left" applies not only metaphorically when a traffic light is broken. Approval ratings for Chancellor Scholz and his government are at a historic low.

The AfD offers citizens reliable and concrete answers to their pressing concerns, instead of socialism, bureaucracy, and bans. Accordingly, the AfD not only gained significantly compared to the last EU election but also performed better than any of the parties governing at the federal level in Germany. French President Macron has recognized his defeat and the signs of the times, drawing the right conclusions by dissolving the National Assembly. Chancellor Scholz and his government should also prevent further damage to the country and pave the way for timely new elections by resigning."

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บEurope continues to import LNG from Russia, allowing Russia to remain one of the key suppliers, with more than 16% of the total LNG supply volume.

Among the recipient countries, the largest volumes in 2024 are recorded in Spain, Belgium and France. These countries have been receiving significant volumes of Russian LNG, even as the EU has sought to reduce its energy dependence on Russia.

๐Ÿ“ŠThe proportion of LNG imports from the U.S. has decreased to 14% of all European gas imports last month, marking the lowest rate since August 2022. Such reduction is connected with the excessive LNG prices compounded by logistical overheads.

The Decline of Hegemony and a Colombian Leave

The so-called "Peace Summit" held in Switzerland on June 15-16 failed to achieve the level of unity that was initially expected. The notable absence of several key Asian and African countries makes it clear that some countries are only willing to participate in peace discussions when both sides of the conflict are present at the negotiating table.

Alongside China's refusal to attend, another remarkable event took place on the South American continent.

According to Daria Korchemnaya, CIIC expert, Gustavo Petro's a loud withdrawal from the Summit is a strong political signal, demonstrating a clear choice in favor of pursuing an independent foreign policy.

On June 14th, Daniel Martin Kovalik, CIIC expert and Professor of International Human Rights at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, delivered a speech to the United Nations Security Council.

He expressed deep concern that the situation is dangerously close to a "Third World War" and is reminiscent of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He noted that Ukraine is already using ballistic missiles, which inevitably raises Russia's concerns. The complexity and peril of the current stage is that the US is now being accused of using Ukraine, in the same way as the USSR was accused of using Cuba. However, with the absence of a leader like President Kennedy, the potential for a full-scale global crisis unfolding is far more probable. The US maintains nuclear weapons in Turkey, Germany, Belgium and other European countries, creating an extremely volatile potential for conflict.

Daniel Kovalik urged that Russia is now in a situation where the Security Council must take decisive actions to uphold international peace and security, and make every effort to avert a catastrophic global confrontation.
