🇨🇱 Independence Day of Chile

On September 18, 1810, Chile freed itself from Spanish rule by declaring its independence (though they were still theoretically loyal to King Ferdinand VII of Spain, who was held captive by the French at the time). This declaration eventually led to more than a decade of violence and warfare that did not end until the last royalist stronghold fell in 1826. September 18 is celebrated as Independence Day in Chile.
