There is much debate about the best way to land a desirable job. Some argue that getting a tertiary qualification is the surest path to get hired while others contend that acquiring experience and non-academic skills is better. Overall, I believe that both academic qualifications and job experience are needed to secure a great job because both aspects are equally valuable.

Firstly, a tertiary education provides you with the opportunity to acquire specific skills and knowledge that are pre-requisite to performing well in your future job. For example, to become a doctor one needs to have technical knowledge about treating illness and disease. Without learning about anatomy, causes of sickness and understanding the human body in-depth at university;,  a doctor would not be able to perform his or her duties at all. Clearly, a university qualification equips students with technical skills and theory necessary for their prospective career.
On the other hand, some occupations value experience and other skills that a tertiary education does not explicitly provide. Jobs such as sales, marketing and advertising may favour an individual’s soft skills such as his persuasive ability, communication skills and prior experience over theoretical knowledge. In this instance, a university degree might not help a job-seeker as much as an impressive resumé filled with various job experiences and extra-curricular achievements.

In my opinion, I view both tertiary education and job experience with development of soft skills as equally important factors to get hired for a coveted job. Combining both university qualifications and soft skills acquired through real-world experience seems to be the best way to improve prospects of a great career.

🔸Intelligence is the most important quality for a leader.

Do you agree or disagree?

A leader is a person who leads by example and gets the job done. While intelligent is an important virtue for a person to lead, there are other many equally omnipotent traits he must possess. In this essay I will elaborate my view with the help of examples.

To begin with, a leader must be able to motivate his juniors. This is because a motivated staff is a good breeding ground of innovative ideas. For example, few encouraging words from a boss can help relieve employee from stress and meet his deadline. As a result, the organisation prospers, which augurs well for everyone concerned. If a superior fails to motivate his juniors, it will result in low work efficiency.

Moreover, the person in command should keep the lines of communication open between him and his team. This is very important because it encourages staff to come up with and discuss their problems at workplace openly and frankly with him. For instance, I was on the verge of resigning from my job due to a problem with a co-worker, but when I discussed the matter with my boss, the whole matter was resolved amicably. This not only gave me immense job satisfaction, but also helped foster good relationship with my co-worker later on.

In conclusion, I would reiterate my opinion that a leader should possess range of personality traits such as honesty, leading by example, problem-resolving skills, credibility etc. to lead his team effectively.

IELTS Reading Tip 📖

Don’t expect to understand every word! ❌❌❌

Many of my students have been taught to look up every word in a dictionary they don’t understand in a dictionary. The theory behind this is good, a wide vocabulary is key to getting a good score in the IELTS test, but worrying about all the words you don’t understand in the reading exam is one of the worst things you can do.

If you don’t understand a word in the reading test, there are two things you can do. You can look at the words and sentences around it for clues to its meaning or you can move on and forget about it.

You don’t have to understand the meaning of every word. Even native speakers- and many IELTS teachers- would not be able to understand all the words in the reading test.☝️

Candidates who worry about the meaning of every word, panic and spend too much time thinking about words that might not be related to the question. Focus on the words that are related to the question and don’t worry about the words you don’t understand.

💡 Answer:

Buying things from internet has numerous benefits, albeit it may also have some drawbacks, like the loss of individual privacy. In my view, the benefits of online shopping for customers more than negative points and in this essay, I will explain why.

Firstly, it is convenient for everyone, especially, for parents with small children and people who work throughout the day as online shopping venues are available any time, day or night. Secondly, prices of things are cheaper than stores or shops and also you can compare prices from various vendors. In addition to this, it has more payment methods, consequently, people can pay for things in variety ways, such as PayPal or bitcoin. Finally, but not least, it is easy for buyers to access other consumers' reviews about the product, which they want to purchase, if they are not sure.

On the other hand, there are a number of disadvantages of online shopping, such as the loss of individual privacy since internet is full of hackers who can easily steal your identity. Another negative point is that you can not touch or try things on and as a result of it, we can not know the quality of product and also it is suitable for us or not. Following this, after you order something you will have to wait its delivery. It takes time depend on online shopping sites from a week to a month to deliver your order.

In conclusion, whereas there are several drawbacks of buying online, like time and possibility of loosing privacy, I think the advantages of online shopping with convenience and cheap prices outweigh the disadvantages significantly.
