Individuals could take a variety of measures to improve the environment. They can save energy by turning off all electric and electronic devices which are not being used. The process of producing energy releases tons of emissions and waste into the environment. Therefore, the less energy we consume, the better it is for the environment. Besides, people can dispose of rubbish appropriately and place recyclable waste in designated bins. This reduces environmental pollution on a large scale. In addition, each person can minimize their use of metal and especially plastics, including plastic bags and metal cans. It can take thousands of years for such materials to decompose in the natural environment.
Nevertheless, in some special contexts, only governments and large enterprises can make significant improvements to the environment. Take nuclear plants, for instance, which can accidentally leak radioactive waste into the environment. The voice of an individual is not strong enough to change the situation. Some legislation has to be enacted by governments to guard against the release of such waste. More importantly, air pollution and climate change affect all countries in the world. This problem is thus best addressed by the cooperation of all nations. With financial support from large companies in the world, governments can also run campaigns to raise people’s awareness about air pollution and the need for environmental protection.
In conclusion, individuals can contribute to environmental protection by reducing their use of non-biodegradable materials and energy consumption, while governments and corporations can help reduce air pollution, nuclear waste and other large-scale pollution.

Разница между глаголами HEAR и LISTEN
Глаголы hear и listen означают «слушать». Но они не относятся к абсолютным синонимам. Каждый из них имеет свой смысловой оттенок и употребляется в строго определенном контексте.
Эти слова отражают разный тип слушания. К примеру, три человека сидят вместе. Двое разговаривают. А третий достал ноутбук и занимается своими делами. Таким образом, он слышит (hear) разговор, но не слушает (listen).
Hear уместно произносить, когда речь идет об услышанном событии. Что-то происходит как естественный процесс, без нашего участия. Этот глагол означает способность физически испытывать звук. Мы слышим что-то неосознанно.
Hear не применяется во временах группы Continuous. Если нужно показать продолжительный процесс, то этот глагол ставится с модальным «can».
I can hear you really clearly. - Я очень хорошо тебя слышу.
Listen всегда подразумевает сознательное действие. Мы используем это слово, когда сами делаем все, чтобы услышать звуки извне. Мы специально применяем нашу способность воспринимать звуки. Мы слушаем что-то намеренно.
