☘️ Agree/Disagree

Q: Whoever controls the media also controls the opinions and attitudes of the people and there is little that can be done to rectify this.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

📚Answer:

It is of great concern that the way people think and react towards certain events are often misled by what media corporations dictate, and often there are hardly any solutions to ameliorate it. While I completely agree with the first part of that statement, I believe that this problem can be tackled in a number of ways.

To begin with, news, in particular on the internet, tends to be biased, presenting many issues and stories from just one narrow perspective instead of covering the whole matter. Thus, people can be easily misled for the sake of promoting certain agendas. A case in point is that many fake stories are made up to sway readers' opinions and gain their sympathy. Politicians, in particular, have always tried to take advantage of people by the help of the media. The American government, in particular, influences the media to prepare the Americans' mind for beginning another war in a country. Had it not been for such manipulation of the media, the States could never conceal its belligerent nature.

However, various actions can be taken to address this issue by both governments and individuals. Apart from introducing new laws that strictly fine those who distribute inaccurate or false information, the authorities can also require publishers to censor the news thoroughly. As individuals, people should be more selective of where they obtain their news and choose only reliable sources of information. Further, they can report news containing misleading information to the relevant regulatory authorities.

In conclusion, it is true that information disseminated by the media is not always reliable as some irresponsible media outlets may try to influence public opinion through false or misleading information. However, greater individual awareness and strict control by the government can do much to rectify this.

To be off on one’s vacation
Фраза to be off в этом предложении означает to be away (быть где-то далеко). Поэтому если ваши близкие отправятся в отпуск этим летом, вы смело сможете говорить, что they are off on their vacation (они в отпуске).

The dog days of summer
Если вы не слишком хорошо переносите жару, приготовьтесь к тому, что it could be hard to work outdoors during the dog days of summer (в самые жаркие дни лета работать на улице может быть тяжело).

Soak up some sun
Если лето выдалось солнечным, обязательно go out and soak up some sun (выберитесь на улицу и примите солнечную ванну).

To beat the heat
В таком случае you need to do something to beat the heat (вам нужно сделать что-то, чтобы спрятаться от жары, побороть ее).

The midnight sun

Indian summer
Indian summer will be long this year

•Can you ...?
•Could you....?
•Would you...?

•Do you mind/ Would you mind...?
•Could you do me a favour?
•I’d like (Эта фраза больше подойдет в случаях общения с работниками ресторанного/гостиничного или иного сервиса)

•To do someone a favour-
For example:
Could you do me a favour and turn off the radio?

•To help someone out- помочь кому-то
For example:
He helped me out and signed up for me

•To give someone a hand-
For example:
Would you give me a hand and check my essay?

☘️ Discuss both views

Q: Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is best to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

💡 Answer:

We all encounter difficult circumstances at some stage in life. Sometimes, we are overwhelmed with a challenging situation for which there appears to be no clear solution. There is often much debate around whether we should accept unpleasant situations or not, particularly when it comes to work or money. While some people believe that acceptance is sometimes a good choice when faced with these problems, I am of the opinion that we can first attempt to overcome them.

There are some reasons people accept difficult situations when they occur. Some people think it is simply beyond their capabilities to confront or deal with a trying situation or event, and hence attempting to tackle these issues causes them more stress and frustration without bringing about any significant change. Another reason is the fear of encountering risk or failure while seeking a change or a solution for such situations. Such people in fact tend to think about the barriers more than the potential benefits that a change can bring for them.

But they can at least try to overcome unexpected difficulties instead of simply accepting them. For example, if someone loses their job, they should accept one with lower pay instead of becoming a burden to society. Additionally, resolving a difficult situation will equip us with valuable experience for the future. Many successful professional sportspeople have gone on achieving stunning success because they refused to give up when they encountered poverty or lack of support early in their careers.

In conclusion, although accepting undesirable situations sometimes has benefits, I maintain that in the first step it is better to make an effort to overcome these problems. If people know how to deal with difficulties, they will definitely be more successful in their life.
