Qualcomm just announced two new flagship Snapdragon chips… and honestly, the naming scheme is getting hard to follow. 😵‍💫

Meet:

⚡ Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
⚡ Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6

Both bring Qualcomm’s latest flagship platform with 5 GHz Chip, but the Extreme model gets the full feature set.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6

🚀 2× Oryon prime cores at 5.0GHz + 6 performance cores at 4.0GHz
⚡ TSMC 2nm N2P
🧠 35% faster NPU + dedicated AI matrix cores
🎮 Adreno 850, up to 44% faster
✨ AI upscaling + frame generation
📹 8K 60FPS video + advanced APV codec
💾 LPDDR6/LPDDR5X, up to 24GB RAM + UFS 5.0
📶 X105 5G modem up to 14.8Gbps
📡 Wi-Fi 8, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB + Thread

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6

Still extremely powerful, but with some features cut back:

🚀 Same 5.0GHz Oryon CPU
⚡ Same TSMC 2nm N2P process
🧠 14% faster NPU
🎮 Adreno 845, up to 35% faster
📹 8K 30FPS + 4K 120FPS slow-motion
💾 LPDDR6/LPDDR5X + UFS 5.0
📶 Same X105 5G modem

And here’s where it gets confusing:

SM8975 = 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
SM8950 = 8 Elite Gen 6

So we basically have a Gen 6, an Extreme Gen 6, and two different chip numbers.

Qualcomm’s silicon naming is becoming almost as complicated as the chips themselves. 😭📱
