New Study Finds “Myocardial Injury is Less Common in Patients w/ COVID-19 Pneumonia & Respiratory Failure Compared to Those w/ Other Severe Pulmonary Infections”

“To date, only two studies have compared the incidence of myocardial injury in cohorts of patients with respiratory failure caused by Sars-CoV-2 and other agents. However, these studies had limitations, including smaller sample sizes of patients with COVID-19 and the use of historical controls. In the study conducted at the hospitals of the Johns Hopkins Healthcare System, the incidence of myocardial injury was found to be similar (around 50%) in patients with COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 pneumonia. The 2-fold increased hazard for mortality was no longer statistically significant after adjusting for covariates.”
