The Manual of Chess Combinations 5 - Sergey Ivashchenko (pdf + pgn)

It is time now to learn and solve more complicated problems, where deeper thought is required. Such combinations and manoeuvres can bring not only victory, but also aesthetic pleasure, and thanks to books and magazines they are stored forever in the treasury of chess. Our new book too includes combinations that have occurred in games by well-known players, including outstanding masters of the past and present. Here there are also many specifically composed positions, not instructional exercises, but artistic compositions called studies. In them, ideas are usually expressed in a cleaner and more memorable form than in practical games.

Calculation Workshop with FM Viktor Neustroev (MP4)

Viktor created a complete Calculation Workshop where he takes you from the basics to very advanced tactics explaining the key ideas, techniques, and patterns throughout the way!
But, I have to warn you. It is a lot of work.

Just watching 7.5 hours of videos isn’t enough.

You’ll need to constantly stop and calculate the positions in the video. You’ll need to find the best moves. You’ll need to identify tactics even if it seems like there is nothing there. You need to make mistakes. And try again, and again – until you succeed.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the course takes you 25 or 30 hours to complete.

Mastering Chess Logic - Joshua Sheng and Guannan Song (pdf)

What exactly makes the greatest players of all time, such as Magnus Carlsen, Bobby Fischer, and Garry Kasparov stand out from the rest? The basic aspects of chess (calculation, study of opening theory, and technical endgame ability) are of course of great importance. However, the more mysterious part of chess ability lies within the thought process.

In particular:
• How does one evaluate certain moves to be better than others?
• How does one improve their feel of the game?

This book will tackle this woefully underexplored aspect of chess: the logic behind the game. It will explain how chess works at a fundamental level.

Mastering Positional Chess - Daniel Naroditsky (pdf)

Mastering Positional Chess is a serious, but entertaining chess instruction book. Daniel started writing it when he realized that his lack of positional understanding was causing him to lose many games.

Despite his young age, Daniel’s mature style and systematic method of working stand out. He gives crystal-clear, verbal explanations on the essence of positional chess, thus showing himself to be a born writer and instructor.

This refreshingly original book contains six chapters on the important positional aspects of chess, with many attractive games and fragments from Daniel’s own games, but also from games by top players like Kasparov, Karpov, Topalov and Petrosian.

Python Strategy - Tigran Petrosian (pdf)

This book is an English translation of a Russian classic that is a favorite of many grandmasters, including Mihail Marin and Levon Aronian. A literal translation of the Russian title might be 'The Strategy of Soundness' but Python Strategy is a better fit for Petrosian’s more ambitious games. As another World Champion, Max Euwe, once wrote: "Petrosian is not a tiger that pounces on its prey, but rather a python that smothers its victim."
