๐ŸŽฎ The poster someone almost trashed just sold for $329,400

In 1981, Nintendo of America employee Donna Darbous rescued a Donkey Kong arcade flyer from a pile of materials marked for disposal. It just became the most expensive video game artwork ever sold at auction โ€” beating the previous record, the original Prince of Persia cover art ($63,000 in 2023), by over a quarter million dollars.

The flyer shows Donkey Kong mid-barrel-hurl and a tiny Jumpman โ€” future Mario โ€” climbing to the rescue. Standard marketing material. Nearly landfill.

At the same Landry Pop Auctions sale, original Mario and Luigi artwork fetched $17,080 against a $6,000 estimate, and a Nintendo employee orientation VHS tape starring Mario went for $3,660.

๐Ÿ–– Patrick Stewart, 1940โ€“2025

Patrick Stewart died Wednesday at his Los Angeles home, aged 86, after a brief battle with Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia. Two roles defined him for most of the world: Captain Picard across seven seasons of *Star Trek: TNG* and Professor Xavier through two decades of *X-Men*. Behind them sat twenty years at the Royal Shakespeare Company, an Olivier Award for *Hamlet*, and โ€” somehow โ€” a chilling neo-Nazi in *Green Room*. The range was almost unreasonable.

His final appearance as Xavier comes in *Avengers: Doomsday* this December. A film he won't see in a theatre.

๐Ÿ’ธ Binance freezes withdrawals โ€” breach in progress

Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, confirmed to TechCrunch it's dealing with an active security incident. Funds are being drained from its hot wallets right now.

Unverified but already alarming:
๐Ÿ”ธ Minimum estimated loss: $2 billion
๐Ÿ”ธ Some observers say up to $5.7 billion
๐Ÿ”ธ Tether froze $1.56 billion; Circle froze another $800 million

Founder Zhao โ€” no longer CEO but still the biggest shareholder โ€” posted on X that losses will be "fully covered." How, exactly, remains unsaid.

For scale: the Bybit hack in 2025 was $1.4 billion โ€” a record, blamed on North Korea. The upper estimate here is four times that.

๐ŸŽฌ Prada drew this one by hand โ€” literally

Two-thirds of advertisers now use generative AI in production (2026 IAB report); Prada called a Disney legend instead. John Pomeroy โ€” animator of *Pocahontas* and *Fantasia 2000* โ€” hand-drew the brand's entire holiday campaign, placing Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke and co. among pencil-sketched woodland creatures.

"There's a very distinct reason to do hand-drawn animation โ€” to show that the human touch still has value."

Coca-Cola ran AI holiday ads two years straight and got roasted each time. Prada picked up a pencil. Rebellion has excellent taste.

๐Ÿ’ธ DoorDash is buying Instacart โ€” and now it delivers everything

DoorDash dominates restaurant takeout; Instacart owns grocery runs. As of Thursday, that's one company's problem to solve.

The deal: $17 billion, or $65 a share, boards of both companies signed off. Instacart's stock is up 25% this year, and the timing is deliberate โ€” talks with Uber had quietly collapsed. Closing is expected late 2027 or early 2028.

Both brands stay intact and keep running independently until then. The combined pitch is simple: give smaller grocers ordering tech, ad tools, and a delivery network in one package. As DoorDash CEO Tony Xu put it โ€” someone has to pick the ripe avocado and get the ice cream there before it melts. Now one team owns that problem end to end.

๐Ÿ’ธ Reddit fed the hand that's now eating it

Reddit's model was simple: someone Googles a question, a Reddit thread appears, they click through, they see ads. Google's AI Overviews broke that chain โ€” the answer now lives inside the search page, and the click never comes.

CEO Steve Huffman told investors that Google referrals fell by over a million per week in October. If the trend holds, daily active users could drop by a low double-digit percentage from the current ~130 million base. The market responded: shares fell 30.44% in one session โ€” 44% on the week โ€” landing at $90.15.

The irony: in early 2024 Reddit sold Google access to its discussions for a reported $60M a year to train AI models. That content helped make Google's AI sharper. That sharper AI now keeps users on Google's page instead of Reddit's.

๐ŸŽฌ David Bowie's lost 1978 concert is finally seeing the light

Bowie commissioned a film of his London tour that year, hated the result, and shelved it. The reels sat untouched for nearly 40 years โ€” until director Brett Morgen found them while making *Moonage Daydream*.

His verdict: "the finest film performance of David Bowie's career." No character, no mask โ€” just the man himself. Syncing Visconti's 24-track audio to the footage alone took eight months.

On February 14, 2027, *Stage* premieres at Berlin's Uber Arena as a full arena experience: multiple screens, immersive sound, lighting by Patrick Woodroffe. Fifty years for the technology to catch up. More at Variety.

๐Ÿ’ธ Intel's worst day in 50 years

Shares dropped nearly 30% to $65.76 on Friday, wiping out over $146 billion in market value โ€” Intel's worst single-day crash since the 1970s.

The quarter itself was solid: revenue up 21% year over year, EPS of $0.52, eighth consecutive beat. But the market looked ahead and didn't like it. Q4 guidance landed $1.6 billion below analyst expectations, and CFO Dave Zinsner warned free cash flow will likely stay negative next year.

The cruel irony: demand for Intel's AI server chips is booming โ€” the company just can't manufacture enough of them. Fabs are being built, cash is being burned, and the PC market keeps shrinking. A good recovery story and a cash-generating business are still two different things.

๐ŸŽฎ Minecraft as the nuclear option

Since buying Mojang in 2014, Microsoft kept Minecraft everywhere. Then spent years doing the opposite with its other franchises โ€” porting Halo, Forza, and Gears to PS5 to claw back the $69 billion Activision Blizzard deal. Result: Xbox hardware revenue fell 33%, the console felt optional. Spencer left, Asha Sharma took over, strategy reversed.

Now an Xbox Research survey โ€” verified by Windows Central โ€” floats the next move: pull Minecraft from PlayStation and Nintendo entirely. Not a timed exclusive. A hard cutoff of sales and updates on rival platforms.

425 million copies sold. A 2025 film that made nearly $1 billion worldwide. No other Microsoft franchise comes close to that leverage. The risks are obvious โ€” broken cross-play, bad press, immediate revenue loss. But Xbox already tried the safe road. It didn't help.

๐Ÿ’ก An Oscar dress for $39

Elie Saab โ€” the Lebanese couturier behind looks worn by Beyoncรฉ, Zendaya, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez โ€” has landed at H&M. 55 pieces: embellished gowns, sequined blazers, lace separates, faux fur, jewellery. Starting at $39.99.

His couture runs into the tens of thousands. The gap hasn't closed entirely โ€” the embellished bandeau dress tops out at $429 โ€” but it's no longer a canyon.

Saab is more than a celebrity favourite. In 2002, Halle Berry accepted her Best Actress Oscar in his burgundy floral-embroidered gown โ€” the moment that put him on the international map. Twenty-two years later, Berry walked his anniversary runway in Riyadh in that same dress.

The collection is available now, online and in select stores โ€” as Variety notes, the latest chapter in H&M's habit of turning luxury into something you can actually buy.

๐Ÿš— GM quietly sold driver data to insurers for eight years

$220 million โ€” that's what General Motors will pay to settle a lawsuit filed by 35 US states and DC.

From 2016 through 2024, GM enrolled millions of customers in its OnStar Smart Driver program, tracked hard braking, speeding and late-night trips, then sold the data to brokers who fed it to insurance companies. Premiums rose. Drivers noticed on their bills.

One detail stands out: over 370,000 people were explicitly told they weren't enrolled. They were. Their data was sold anyway.

Under the settlement, GM must limit data collection and submit to privacy audits. The FTC had already banned the company from sharing consumer data with third parties for five years; a separate California settlement added $12.75M in May.

Asking permission would have been cheaper.

๐ŸŽฌ 27 slaps. Zero seconds of screen time.

Dustin Hoffman has written a candid piece for The New Yorker about making *The Graduate* โ€” the film that launched his career โ€” calling it, without hesitation, a "terrible experience."

The detail that sticks: director Mike Nichols made Katharine Ross slap Hoffman 27 times for a single scene. She worried about hurting him; his one request was "don't hit my ear." She missed a few times. The next day, during an underwater shoot, blood trickled from his ear โ€” a punctured eardrum. Nichols cut the slap entirely.

Seven Oscar nominations. One of the defining American films of the 20th century. Built, apparently, on genuine dread.

๐Ÿ’ธ North Korea just walked off with $6.3 billion. Literally.

The FBI has attributed the $6.3 billion Binance hack โ€” pulled off on October 29th โ€” to North Korea, tagging the operation under its tracked campaign TraderTraitor.

The playbook: stolen tokens get swapped into ETH, then cycled through DeFi protocols and instant swap services, layer after layer, until the trail goes cold. The FBI is working the case alongside the USSS and IRS-CI, though it's offered little in the way of technical evidence or arrests so far.

Binance has since reopened customer withdrawals, lifted after a brief freeze while the exchange figured out what it was dealing with. It was dealing with the biggest crypto heist on record.

North Korea has spent years turning cyberattacks into a revenue stream. At $6.3 billion, this one likely outpaces their entire annual export income.

๐ŸŽธ Twenty years late, right on time

The Black Parade peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 back in 2006 โ€” and stayed there, frozen, for two decades.

The 20th-anniversary deluxe reissue just fixed that. My Chemical Romance climbed from No. 139 to No. 1 with 78,000 equivalent album units โ€” the longest wait for a chart-topper in Billboard history, and the first anniversary album ever to debut at the summit.

Five sold-out nights at the Hollywood Bowl, performing the record front to back, probably didn't hurt.

The teenagers who put this on repeat in 2006 are closer to 35 now. Turns out they bought it again โ€” and finally gave it the number it never got, according to Billboard.
