Netflix turns it into a miniseries: *The Altruists*, eight episodes, out November 19. Anthony Boyle plays SBF, Julia Garner plays Caroline Ellison — two people who genuinely believed they were saving the world.

🎬 Los Angeles, rebuilt from scratch

Ridley Scott's 1982 original, Villeneuve's *2049* with Gosling — and now a series set fifty years further still. At New York Comic-Con, Prime Video dropped a full Blade Runner 2099 trailer: Hunter Schafer plays a fugitive turned Blade Runner, Michelle Yeoh a Replicant with days left to live. They're hunting someone who allegedly knows a cure for all Replicants. 28 have gone missing in the past year, quietly.

All eight episodes drop at once on November 25th.

"I don't know what you're doing. Do you?" — Yeoh's closing line.

🤖 Nicolas Cage is "not an AI-friendly actor" — and he's fine with what that costs him

Amazon has $50 billion in OpenAI and, apparently, expected its talent to sign AI waivers to match. Cage refused — and says he's probably done working with the studio because of it.

This is the same Amazon that cancelled *Spider-Noir* last month despite 2.6 billion minutes viewed and 11 Emmy nominations, so the relationship was already complicated.

"Connect those dots."

He also announced a *True Detective* season from the Comic-Con stage — apparently news to his agent, who was somewhere in the audience. Variety was there for all of it.

Pebble Flow is an electric trailer from CES 2024 promising to make RV life manageable through tech. The Verge spent a day and night in one at a real campsite.

The interior works: shower, queen Murphy bed, desk by a window that opens. All glass is electrochromic — clear or frosted on tap. Sealed in with LED lighting and no natural light, it feels like a spacecraft with good water pressure.

A camera on the hitch docks the trailer autonomously in 45 seconds. The same iPad handles lights, climate, and remote-drives the unhitched trailer around a lot. Hydraulics auto-level on arrival.

Downsides: a loud pump, a wobbly table, and $159,000.

🚗 Mini Cooper-sized. Pulls like a truck.

America's pickup market runs on one rule: bigger is better. California startup Telo is running a different experiment.

The MT1 is literally the footprint of a two-door Mini Cooper — yet it claims an 8,000 lb tow rating, a 96-inch bed, up to 350 miles on the 106 kWh pack, and 0–60 in four seconds. Co-founder Forrest North, a former Tesla battery engineer, originally planned an electric motorcycle — until a street poll of 200 strangers showed 90% wanted the tiny truck instead. They pivoted in a week.

As The Verge reports, the MT1 already turns heads at stoplights. Whether it turns wallets too depends on what those price tags say.

🎬 The villain who wanted to seduce Bond — by design

Raoul Silva from *Skyfall* — bleached-blond cyber-terrorist, hands on Bond's thighs, Craig tied to a chair — is widely called the finest villain in franchise history. That scene? Javier Bardem's own pitch.

At the BFI London Film Festival, he revealed what he told Sam Mendes at the read-through:

"All villains destroy the world. What if this one also wants to have sex with Bond?"

Mendes consulted the studio. The studio, Bardem said, "was very brave."

He also admitted he forgot his lines mid-take in the prison scene — one look at Judi Dench as M and it hit him: *I'm in a James Bond film.* He asked for another take.

💿 Sony Is Killing Discs — and Its Own Lawyers Make the Case Against It

Sony announced in July: physical discs for new games end by 2028. Some 385,000 people signed the "Don't Kill the Disc" petition. Sony hasn't flinched.

Shawn Layden, former President of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, said it best on The Expansion Pass:

"If you can't sell a thing, you don't own a thing. What are you buying — access? That doesn't sound quite as sexy."

The awkward part: Sony is simultaneously arguing in a California court that no reasonable consumer ever believed they owned PlayStation Store purchases. Just a license. That's their defense against a class action claiming otherwise.

Layden's reminder: the ~20% still buying physical are the most devoted fans — two copies per game, one sealed, one played. Those are exactly the people you don't ghost.

💸 PS5 Pro is scarce, and GTA 6 will only make it worse

Sony has told distributors that supply constraints on the PS5 Pro will last at least through 2027, per German outlet Playfront. The console launched in late 2024 at $699.99 — it's now $200 above that at retail, and one Best Buy reseller listed it at $1,539.

The culprit is the AI boom eating up advanced chips before consumer electronics get a look in. Then GTA 6 arrives November 19 — the franchise's first entry in 13 years, with no PC version anywhere on the horizon.

The quiet irony: Rockstar still hasn't explained what "PS5 Pro Enhanced" actually means for GTA 6. Both consoles are getting 30 fps. And Sony is quietly pushing its flagship QSSR upscaling down to the base model anyway.

Paying an $800 premium for marginally better puddle reflections — a choice.

💸 The Celsius chapter gets its closing line

Celsius was one of crypto's biggest lenders until it froze withdrawals in 2022 and collapsed into bankruptcy. CEO Alex Mashinsky had told hundreds of thousands of investors the platform was safer than a bank — while quietly running their deposits into risky bets and hiding the losses.

New York AG Letitia James has now settled the civil case: up to $35M from Mashinsky and a lifetime ban from crypto, securities and commodities. His third permanent ban, technically — a 12-year federal fraud sentence and a CFTC ban came first.

Celsius creditors have recovered more than $3.4B through bankruptcy as of August.

💸 Iran's Crypto Funds Keep Shrinking

The US has spent years cutting Iran off from global finance — and crypto is no longer a safe detour. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington was "probably gonna seize a billion dollars of crypto this week" targeting the Iranian regime, without specifying whether exchanges or stablecoin issuers were in the crosshairs.

The tally is growing fast: April brought $500M in seizures; Tether reported freezing $550M in USDT throughout 2026 under US sanctions. OFAC has been targeting exchanges serving Iran's Revolutionary Guard since August.

🎵 Britney dropped a Justin Timberlake duet — and barely told anyone

Around 2000, Britney and Justin were dating and recorded a song that never came out. Now, 25 years later, "She'll Never Be Me" is finally here — no press release, no announcement, just a Facebook reel.

It's a preview of the *Britney* (2001) anniversary edition, out November 6, with five unreleased tracks, including a full version of a 2002 Pepsi jingle, which is a sentence that could only exist in pop history.

Worth noting: Spears said in 2024 she'd never return to music. This feels less like a comeback, more like an archive quietly unlocking.

🔒 The cameras that wouldn't leave

Flock Safety sells license-plate-reader cameras to colleges and police departments across the US. Elgin Community College in Illinois installed six in April 2025 — then learned Flock was sharing footage data with Border Patrol and that access was barely secured.

The college asked for removal. Flock refused. The school offered to pay out the remaining five months of the contract. Silence. So staff covered the cameras with trash bags and zip ties — and an unmarked vehicle kept coming to pull them off.

"We'd cover, and then they'd remove. Then we'd cover and then they'd remove," said president Peggy Heinrich.

This ran until April 2026, when the contract expired and Flock finally retrieved its cameras.

🤖 The barrier keeping software closed just collapsed

REA — Reverse Engineer Anything — connects AI agents to Ghidra and similar tools, letting them read any program down to raw binary. It went from 10,000 to 100,000 GitHub stars between October 6 and 12.

People have already used it to run GTA V natively on iPhone, boot Fable 2 on PC for the first time ever, and send Spider-Man swinging through Arkham City.

Developer Brandon Thomas took the same idea further: he used Claude Opus 5.5 to build ArtCraft, a free open-source alternative to Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere — written from scratch, no original code touched. His motivation was personal: Adobe had just settled with the DOJ for $150 million over hidden cancellation fees.

The oldest copy protection in software was always the sheer pain of reading machine code. That pain is gone.
